The 2025 Roland Garros Grand Slam opens under a spotlight of transition. Rafael Nadal is officially retired. Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek return as defending champions. Alcaraz enters with the edge in the men’s field, while Swiatek’s hold on the women’s side looks more vulnerable than in years past. The women’s draw remains wide open behind her, and recent clay form has offered clear signals on who’s positioned to capitalize. 

Between spring clay results, overall season trends, historical data and draw position, four players stand out as the most actionable bets: three quarter winners and one outright.

 

 

Roland Garros Grand Slam Best Bet: Carlos Alcaraz to Win Outright (+100 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

A top seed that comes at an expected price. Carlos Alcaraz is 15–1 on clay this season with two titles — Monte Carlo and Rome. He looks sharper than he did even in his 2024 Roland Garros title run. He’s controlling matches from the first ball and his section of the draw gives him every opportunity to keep doing it deep into week two.

Alcaraz avoids Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev until the final. This is the first time the draw has set up the possibility of an Alcaraz vs. Sinner Grand Slam final, a matchup that's been building toward this stage all season. 

In his quarter, he’ll likely see a fading Tsitsipas or Etcheverry in the Round of 16 and possibly Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals. Ruud will be the biggest hurdle for Alcaraz. He reached back-to-back French Open finals in 2022 and 2023, was a semi-finalist last year and is coming off a title in Madrid. Alcaraz beat Ruud in their only meeting on clay in 2021, but Ruud won their most recent match at the 2024 ATP Finals. With that said, he was completely embarrassed in his QF loss to Sinner last week in Rome. 

Alcaraz checks every box: form, fitness, surface dominance, and draw. With Alcaraz and Sinner as the clear frontrunners based on form and results, anyone else winning would be a surprise.

 

 

Roland Garros Grand Slam Free Pick: Alexander Zverev to Win Quarter 2 (+300)

Zverev sits in the most vulnerable quarter and offers the cleanest path to value. He reached the final here last year, losing to Alcaraz in five sets. He won Munich and has been solid through the clay swing, with steady results and a draw that sets him up well in Paris. Now he’s landed in a section where the top seed, Djokovic, has looked far from his usual self. The Serb is just 12-7 on the year with no titles and early losses in Monte Carlo and Madrid. He hasn’t won a match since mid-March, falling in the early rounds of Monte Carlo and Madrid.

Zverev's draw is smooth: Tien, Cilic/Arnaldi, Auger-Aliassime, then potentially Djokovic in the quarterfinals. While Djokovic leads their head-to-head, recent form and five-set durability favor Zverev. Djokovic is a three-time Roland Garros champion (2016, 2021, 2023), but this version of him hasn’t shown that level all season. The number (+300) reflects some market hesitation, but this is the most beatable Djokovic we’ve seen at Roland Garros in years.

 

 

Roland Garros Grand Slam Free Pick: Mirra Andreeva to Win Quarter 3 (+180)

Mirra Andreeva has been one of the most consistent players on tour this season. She’s 27-7 with two hardcourt titles and has backed that up on clay with quarterfinal runs in Madrid and Rome. Still just 18, she beat Swiatek and Rybakina twice each this year — once in Dubai and again in Indian Wells, where she ran through the world’s best, including Aryna Sabalenka, to take both titles.

She hasn’t faced any top-five opponents on clay this spring outside of her two losses to Coco Gauff in Madrid and Rome quarterfinals, but she made the semifinals here last year, knocking out Sabalenka before falling to Paolini.

Quarter 3 is thin. Jessica Pegula has picked up two titles this season, including a clay title in Charleston, but her red clay results have been uneven. Elina Svitolina has been up and down all season. Kasatkina has had a poor clay swing. Andreeva’s the favorite in this quarter at -115. Paula Badosa is also in this section, she beat Andreeva in their only meeting last year in Rome, but her recent form hasn’t matched the level she showed in that match.

 

 

Roland Garros Grand Slam Free Pick: Aryna Sabalenka to Win Quarter 1 (-165)

Sabalenka also enters this quarter as the clear favorite. She’s 34-6 in 2025 with three titles, including a dominant run in Madrid. She also reached the final in Stuttgart, continuing the form that has kept her firmly at World No. 1.

She opens against Kamilla Rakhimova and could face Stefanini or Teichmann in round two, neither should threaten her over three sets. From there, it’s likely Collins, Fernandez, or Tauson in the fourth round, followed by a projected quarterfinal that could include Diana Shnaider, Amanda Anisimova, or Qinwen Zheng — who just beat Sabalenka in Rome. Sabalenka will be favored in every matchup. Sabalenka’s power game has found patience, and her confidence on clay is peaking.

With Iga on the other side of the draw, Sabalenka has the cleanest path to a semifinal of anyone in the women’s field. This is a smart, low-risk addition to any ticket. Sabalenka is priced around +240 to win the tournament outright, second only to Swiatek, which reflects the market’s confidence in both her form and position in the draw.
