PGA DFS Coverage for The Genesis Invitational

It’s hangover week on the PGA Tour as these players head north to Pacific Palisades, California to one of the best venues on the schedule, Riviera.  This beautiful course has played host to three major championships.  Over the 60 years that Riviera has played host to this tournament, it has been known by many different names.  The Genesis Invitational will have more eyes on the screen this weekend because the greatest of all time will be teeing it up, Tiger Woods.  The 82-time winner on the PGA Tour makes his first appearance since the Open Championship back in July.  He will be joined by a terrific field which includes last week’s winner Scottie Scheffler.  It will be a fantastic weekend at a historic course.

The Field: The Genesis Invitational

You have to start with the return of Tiger Woods.  The 15-time major winner plays in his first non-major event since the 2020 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP.  A fun fact, Tiger may have 82 career victories but none of them have come at Riviera.  He will be joined by all 30 players at the top of the FedEx Cup standings including Rory McIlory, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Max Homa, and Hideki Matsuyama.  All in all, 23 of the Top 25 players in the world will be attending the Genesis Invitational.  The 2022 winner will not be Joaquin Niemann because he has left for the LIV Tour.  This is an invitational which means it’ll be a slightly smaller field at 132.

The Course: Riviera Country Club

This is a course where you want the bombers.  While it is only 7,322 yards, it plays as a Par 71 and there are two Par 5s which can be reachable in two for the longer hitters.  The course managers can have success here as well because of the very narrow fairways, it’ll make it hard on the big hitters to keep it out of the thick stuff.  The greens are also smaller than the average course on the PGA Tour which means you need pinpoint control to land these greens.  That's where the more accurate players can take advantage.  This course compares closely to Augusta National and I say that because of this fun fact, only Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and Mike Wier have won both the Masters and at Riviera, and what do those players have in common? They are all lefties.    The greens on this course are also on the smaller size compared to other PGA Tour tracks.

The Weather: Pacific Palisades, California

The weather will not play much of a factor at this tournament.  We will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s.  There is a chance of rain on Saturday morning which could affect you playing those showdown lineups but not much you can do if you are playing the full weekend slate.  It should be ideal scoring conditions for these players.  The winner last year came in at 19 under par but those were perfect conditions, I think we will likely see a score of 15 under come out on top.

How To Watch The Genesis Invitational

The Genesis Invitational will have plenty of coverage on television throughout the weekend.  We will see the tournament air on the Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday from 4-8pm ET.  Once we get to the weekend the coverage will split between Golf Channel and CBS.  We start on Saturday with the Golf Channel airing the tournament from 1-3pm ET and then over to CBS from 3-7pm ET.  The Sunday final round starts on Golf Channel from 1-3pm ET and then moves over to CBS from 3:00pm-6:30pm ET.
