Breaking news in the golf world this morning as it’s being reported that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will be merging just one year after it’s inaugural 2022 season which saw star PGA Tour players like Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith leave the PGA for the guaranteed money being paid out by the Saudi backed LIV Golf. While the full details are not yet known the news is getting a lot of reaction from both current tour players as well as media outlets who are stunned by today's announcement.

What Does the PGA Tour & LIV Golf Merger Mean?

The details surrounding the deal are still being finalized but the merger will end the legal litigation that the two organizations have been embroiled in over the past few years when it comes to player eligibility of LIV Golfers to compete in world golf events.

The agreement would combine the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s businesses and rights into a new, yet-to-be-named company. The agreement also includes the DP World Tour, also known as the European PGA Tour.

We’ve seen in recent months Brooks Koepka win the PGA Championship and nearly take down the Masters while the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith have also competed at high levels in these major competitions.

As part of this merger the parties have agreed that golfers may reapply to become part of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour following the completion of the 2023 golf season.
