Welcome back to another fun filled year of PGA DFS coverage on Fantasy Alarm.  I hope you had a fantastic holiday break with friends and family.  I know mine could have been better but it’s good to get back into the grind of the season.  For those of you new to this section of Fantasy Alarm, you will typically see three articles come out each week.  It will be a preview of this week’s coverage, the playbook, and example lineups.  If you are a “One & Done” PGA player, I’ll be giving my recommendation at the bottom of each playbook article.  We do have the occasional small field event in which you’ll only see an article with example lineups not a full playbook.  You can also contact me on twitter @ProducerDrewSXM or in our Discord PGA Channel anytime with more specific questions.

The 2023 PGA Tour calendar year begins with the Sentry Tournament of Champions.  This is a special 39 player, no cut, invitational which features all of the winners from last year’s PGA Tour schedule.  We are celebrating the 25th year of this event being played on the beautiful island of Maui and will feature 17 of the top 20 players in the world golf rankings.  The Plantation course at the Kapalua Resort plays host to this  tournament and boasts a huge purse for these champions.  This event will always hold a special place in my heart because I had the pleasure of playing it on my honeymoon in 2015.  I won’t tell you my score but it was in the triple digits.  I still wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

The course has been renovated since I played it and now plays as the only par 73 on the PGA Tour schedule.  It stretches out 7,596 yards with huge elevation changes throughout the course.  As always with an island course, the main defense on this course is the wind but when that doesn’t happen, you see record low scores.  Cameron Smith was on fire last year shooting 34 under par to take home the title by one over Jon Rahm.  We could have another weekend like that this weekend as the forecast calls for little winds from Friday through Sunday.

I mentioned the field strength earlier and it is no joke.  We’ve got Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele and, returning from injury, Will Zalatoris.  You’ve 2022 major champions like Justin Thomas and Matthew Fitzpatrick in the mix as well.  You will not see a full playbook this weekend as this is a small field event but I have listed a few of my favorite targets for this tournament.  The Sony Open is next weekend and that will feature my first full playbook of the 2023 calendar year.  I wish you all the best of luck this weekend but remember we've got a long way to go, so don't go too crazy the first week.

HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE TARGETS:

XANDER SCHAUFFELE - He scored three victories during the 2021-2022 PGA Tour season.  He also finished out the 2022 calendar year with three straight Top 10 finishes.  Xander won this event in 2019, lost in a playoff in 2020, finished 5th in 2021 and 12th last year.  It’s hard to ignore him sitting under 10K.

TOM KIM - This kid came on the scene late in the 2021-2022 season with a win at the Wyndham and a victory already this season at the Shriners.  This may be his debut at the Sentry but new courses have not been a problem for Tom thus far.  He will relish the opportunities to fire at these pins at Kapalua.

BRIAN HARMAN - Few guys in the world were playing better golf than Brian Harman at the end of 2022.  He capped off his play with back to back runner up finishes at the Mayakoba and RSM.  While Harman has not been to Kapalua since the renovation, he did finish third in 2018 at this event.

SEAMUS POWER - Power finished 15th at Kapalua in his debut last year.  Seamus is the current leader in FedEx Cup points after the fall portion of the 2022-2023 season.  He won in Bermuda, finished third at the Mayakoba, and fifth at the RSM.  He was one of the last guys who wanted to take a break for the holidays but here’s to firing things back up again in 2023.

Good Luck this Weekend!
