Edmonton Oilers Vs. New York Rangers

Showdown slates can be difficult to navigate, but here at the Fantasy Alarm, we do our best to help you build the best possible lineup. These single game slates can be a blast if you know what players to target, and how to maximize value. Let’s take a look at some options for tonight.

he captain spot needs to be a player who is going to produce. It’s key to cashing in GPPs and cash games. We need a player who’s consistent, but also won’t break our budget.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisait are great options, but they set the rest of your lineup back. Chris Kreider is the player I would target in the captain spot. We know he can score goals, but his three assists yesterday we’re a very nice surprise. The Oilers don’t play well defensively, and even if New York is playing on back-to-back nights, I expect them to score goals.

Sticking with the Rangers, we can find value in their top six with Alex Lafreniere. He’s $2K and is skating on the second line with Ryan Strome and Barclay Goodrow. At that price tag, he doesn’t need to do much top hit value, and allows you to pay up for an extra superstar. Mika Zibanejad is another player to consider on this slate. His three goals and six shots from last game will have a lot of DFS players flocking to him, and even with high ownership, he’s a better value play than McDavid or Draisaitl.

Speaking of those two, you don’t need anyone to tell you playing them is a good idea. Stacking both in the same lineup would be ideal, but it’s a headache to work the rest of your roster. If we have to pick just one, it’s always McDavid for me.

On the wing, Kailer Yamamoto has five points in his last four games and is $5K on DraftKings. It’s hard to trust him tonight, but his price tag is what pulls me towards him.

On the blueline, Adam Fox is the player I will do everything possible to fit into my lineup. He finished with two points, two shots and four blocked shots yesterday for 21.2 fantasy points. The blocked shots is what has my attention. We know he’s gifted offensively, but he’s hit the blocked shots bonus a few times this year, and we know he’s going to be busy trying to contain Edmonton’s two best players.

On the flip side, Evan Bouchard is who I would want to roster. His $7K price tag is reasonable, and he played over 24-minutes Saturday against the Islanders. He’s not on the top power play unit, so that does limit his upside, but he did hit the blocked shots bonus for the second time in the last five games. Defencemen are always a challenge to roster, but generally, we are looking for players who can hit the blocked shots bonus, and both Bouchard and Fox are capable of that.

When it comes to goalies, I spend no time thinking about them or wanting to roster them. Vegas has the over/under for this game set at 6.5, and I think that is still pretty low. Both teams are elite up front, and we can expect a decent amount of goals before the end of the night.
