Welcome to Monday’s five-game NHL Slate. Auston Matthews looks to continue his strong start to the season, while the New Jersey Devils look to impose their will against the Florida Panthers. There’s a ton of good value on this slate, but we need to dig deep to know which players are worth it, and which ones are frauds. You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Monday, October 16th, but before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's now take a closer look at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS Showdown slate.

DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

We know how dangerous the Toronto Maple Leafs are, specifically Auston Matthews. He has six goals in two games and will likely add a few more to his total. New Jersey, Detroit, New York and Calgary all have team totals above 3.4, so there are more than enough options from those teams to build a solid NHL DFS lineup. As always, goalies are voodoo, so let’s stay away from some of the frauds today.

Recommended DFS Starting Goalies

Top Options for Saves

Connor Ingram Vs. New York Rangers

Jacob Markstrom Vs. Washington Capitals

James Reimer Vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Joseph Woll Vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Best Odds for a Win

Joseph Woll Vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Igor Shesterkin Vs. Arizona Coyotes

Vitek Vanecek Vs. Florida Panthers

James Reimer Vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups

Joseph Woll, G, Toronto Maple Leafs

It feels like a trap to pay $8300 for Joseph Woll on DraftKings, but the kid is a good goalie and his matchup on paper is elite. He’s got the best chance of picking up a win, but it might be a challenge for him to hit value.

Jacob Markstrom, G, Calgary Flames

I’m still a big fan of Jacob Markstrom and the Calgary Flames. He wasn’t that great in his last outing, but I think he can bounce back against an average Washington team. If anything, he’s going to see shots, which will bring him closer to the save bonus.

Igor Shesterkin, G, New York Rangers

Igor Shesterkin really let us down with his poor game against the Blue Jackets, but he has a chance to make us all forget about that will a soft matchup against Arizona. The Coyotes may be a better offensive team, but they are still a below-average hockey team that is going to have a hard time generating offence. Igor won’t see a ton of shots, but he does have a great chance of winning the game.

James Reimer, G, Detroit Red Wings

I hate having to trust James Reimer in 2023, but here we are. The Blue Jackets aren’t a great hockey team and Detroit has a ton of skill up front. I think Reimer can be decent and win this game, so if anything, you’re chasing the victory by playing him. His $7700 price tag is also very appealing.

Recommended DFS Skaters

Highest Expected Goal Totals

Toronto Maple Leafs Vs Petr Mrazek (4.4)

New York Rangers Vs. Connor Ingram (4.0)

New Jersey Devils Vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (3.8)

Detroit Red Wings Vs Spencer Martin (3.4)

Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups

Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews has six goals in two games. You don’t need me to tell you why paying up for him is a good idea.

Dylan Larkin, C, Detroit Red Wings

People are sleeping on Dylan Larkin and that’s a problem. He may have only one assist in two games, but he does have 13 shots on goal. He’s a shooting machine right now so his floor is extremely high. If you can’t afford AM34, this is your next-best option.

Alex DeBrincat, W, Detroit Red Wings

Alex DeBrincat has three goals in two games and is facing a team that is giving up and average of 39.5 shots. $6800 for DeBrincat is just too low considering how juicy this matchup is.

Alexis Lafreniere, W, New York Rangers

The Rangers have a great matchup on paper and Alexis Lafreniere is only $3200 and is skating on the second line. Artemi Panarin is a great passer and Lafreniere can score goals. The cheap price tag combined with the upside is enough to get me on board with playing him.

Moritz Seider, D, Detroit Red Wings

We know that Mortiz Seider has offensive upside, but he has also blocked seven shots in two games. Those were games against Tampa Bay and New Jersey, but the upside is still there. The kid is good and is going to get his looks tonight facing a weak goalie in Spencer Martin. His $5500 price tag is also very reasonable consider his potential production.

Sean Durzi, D, Arizona Coyotes

The expectation was that J.J Moser would be on the top power play unit, but it’s actually Sean Durzi who is occupying that spot. He scored a goal in his first game and contributed three shots on goal. I don’t know if the offence will be there tonight, but I do think he can block three shots and hit value for us.
