DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

We have a massive 12-game slate that includes some elite players in very good matchups.  Auston Matthews looks to continue his scoring ways against the Arizona Coyotes, while Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche take a trip to Chicago in hopes of adding another win to their total. There is no shortage of elite players to choose, from, but as always, it’s all about the value player. Let’s take a look at which players we need to keep an eye out for.

Recommended DFS Starting Goalies

Top Options for Saves

Thatcher Demko vs. Los Angeles Kings

Connor Ingram vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Sam Montembeault vs. Florida Panthers

Best Odds for a Win

Anthony Stolarz vs. Montreal Canadiens

Joseph Woll vs. Arizona Coyotes

Justus Annunen vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups

Anthony Stolarz, G, Florida Panthers

The Montreal Canadiens aren’t a very good team in general and they are even worse on the road. They gave up 38 shots on goal on home ice to the Arizona Coyotes who were without Clayton Keller

The Panthers lead the league in shots per game. The Habs won’t generate a ton of scoring chances, which means Anthony Stolarz may have a hard time hitting value, but I can’t see him losing this game.

Pyotr Kochetkov, G, Carolina Hurricanes

The Columbus Blue Jackets are playing their second game in as many nights, and they might really struggle to generate chances against a very good Carolina team. Pyotr Kochetkov is another good option but only for cash games.

Joseph Woll, G, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs get Justin Woll back tonight. The kid is making his first start since December 7th and has an excellent matcha on paper. Arizona has lost 13 games in a row, and I can’t imagine that streak coming to an end tonight. Woll is a great play in all formats.

Tristan Jarry, G, Pittsburgh Penguins

It’s hard to trust Tristan Jarry because his team in front of him is just so inconsistent, but the Seattle Kraken are average on home ice, and they don’t really take a ton of shots on goal on home ice. I think we are getting a discount with Jarry at $7,600 on DraftKings in an above-average matchup.

Petr Mrazek, G, Chicago Blackhawks

I know this might sound crazy, but Petr Mrazek tonight may be the play in a GPP. Colorado is a very good hockey team, but they are ranked 20th in goals per game on the road. Mrazek is 10-9-3 on home ice with an amazing .923 SV%. He is clearly not the problem.

Maybe he doesn’t win the game, but he will see a healthy number of shots and just needs to hit the save bonus. He is the definition of high risk/high reward.

Recommended DFS Skaters

Highest Expected Goal Totals

Florida Panthers vs. Sam Montembeault (3.9)

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Connor Ingram (4.1)

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Daniil Tarasov (4.1)

Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups

Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews hasn’t scored in two games, so maybe that helps keep his ownership low tonight. Despite the scoring “slump”, he has 28 goals in 27 home games and is shooting the puck a ton. I know $10K is a lot to spend on a player on a large slate, but you know he’s going to come out and just torture the Coyotes.

J.T. Miller, C, Vancouver Canucks

J.T. Miller has 81 points this season, including 30 goals, but we can get him at $7,000 on DK against the Kings? Los Angeles is a good team, but they have holes in their lineup and in goal. Miller is one of the best all-around players and he has five points in the last two games. I think he can easily hit value tonight.

Matthew Tkachuk, W, Florida Panthers

I fully expect Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers to torment the Montreal Canadiens. Tkachuk has 18 points in his last ten games and is seeing a healthy amount of minutes. The Canadiens give up a ton of shots, so Tkachuk will hit the shot bonus and maybe pick up a few points before the night is over.

Andrei Svechnikov, W, Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina is a decent shooting team on the road, and I really like the value of Andrei Svechnikov. He’s $5,600 on DK (LMAO!) and has a great matchup against a below-average Columbus team. His value gets a boost if Daniil Tarasov gets the start because he’s just #NotGood. Svechnikov can be used as part of a stack or as a single bullet in all formats.

Seth Jones, D, Chicago Blackhawks

There’s no reason to pay up for a defenseman tonight when you can get Seth Jones at a very reasonable price. He finished last game with seven shots on goal, four blocked shots and an assist. This is the kind of production that we like to see from a defenceman. He’s going to be on the ice a ton against Colorado’s top line, so his floor is extremely high.

David Savard, D, Montreal Canadiens

David Savard isn’t blocking a ton of shots lately, but that could change tonight. We know how good Florida is at shooting the puck and just how bad Montreal is at giving up shots. This is a perfect storm and a great opportunity for Savard to just rack up the blocked shots.

His $4,500 price tag is a little high for my liking, but I think we see multiple Canadiens defenseman with three or more blocked shots in this one.
