Welcome to Thursday’s 12-game NHL Slate. We have a massive slate with a ton of great options, but we can’t pay up for every superstar. We need to find value and target players in good matchups.

You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Thursday, February 15th, but before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's look closer at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS Showdown slate.

DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

We have no shortage of options to choose from tonight, but we need to be smart and pick the right players. The usual suspects are in play, but it’s all about finding value and targeting the right goalie. We also need McDavid to not break the slate with another six-point performance. Let’s take a look at which players we need to keep an eye on, and which goalies are worth considering.

Recommended DFS Starting Goalies

Top Options for Saves

Petr Mrazek vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

MacKenzie Blackwood vs. Calgary Flames

John Gibson vs. Ottawa Senators

Best Odds for a Win

Dustin Wolf vs. San Jose Sharks

Stuart Skinner vs. St. Louis Blues

Jonathan Quick vs. Montreal Canadiens

Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups

Dustin Wolf, G, Calgary Flames

I don’t like the idea of paying $8300 for a goalie that has been terrible in limited starts, but San Jose is a bad hockey team, and they are playing the tail end of a back-to-back. Dustin Wolf can surely do enough to get the win and hit value, right?

Joonas Korpisalo, G, Ottawa Senators

Speaking of terrible goalies, Joonas Korpisalo is expected to get the start and he has an elite matchup on paper. The Ducks look like a bottom-tier team against Montreal, which is saying something because the Canadiens aren’t necessarily elite. The Senators are going to dictate the pace and shoot the puck, so Korpisalo just has to be decent, and he comes away with a win.

Thatcher Demko, G, Vancouver Canucks

The Detroit Red Wings took a beating against the Edmonton Oilers and things don’t get any easier tonight against Vancouver. Thatcher Demko is 29-9-1 this season and is worth every dollar. He’s in a great spot to produce.

Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning

I know how this looks but let me cook! The Tampa Bay Lightning are a much better team on home ice, we all know this, but Andrei Vasilevskiy is a big reason for that. His numbers at home are very good and he gets a ton of support from his offence. Colorado is dangerous, but let’s not pretend like Justus Annunen is anything special. I know it’s a choice to start a goalie against COL1, but this is how you win a GPP.

Nico Daws, G, New Jersey Devils

I do not believe the New Jersey Devils are turning a page and becoming a good hockey team, but I also don’t think the Los Angeles Kings are any better. Nico Daws is going to start his third game in a row and he has earned it. He’s allowed just three goals in the two previous and he can put together another solid performance tonight.

Recommended DFS Skaters

Highest Expected Goal Totals

New York Rangers vs. Sam Montembeault (3.8)

Ottawa Senators vs. John Gibson (3.9)

Calgary Flames vs. MacKenzie Blackwood (4.1)

Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups

Yegor Sharangovich, C, Calgary Flames

The Flames come in tonight with the highest team total, so we should see a healthy number of goals. Yegor Sharangovich has 20-goals on the season, but he just doesn’t shoot the puck enough. Maybe that won’t be an issue tonight against San Jose, so I’ll gladly pay $5100 for him on DK and take the value.

Josh Norris, C, Ottawa Senators

Josh Norris is skating on the top line, seeing time on the top power play unit and is facing a below-average Anaheim team, but his price tag is only $4700 on DraftKings. I get that he only has one goal in the last ten games, but the upside here is just massive. We don’t need him to do much to hit value, so here’s hoping for an assist and a couple of shots on goal.

Nikita Kucherov, W, Tampa Bay Lightning

Since we aren’t breaking the bank down the middle, we can splurge on wingers. I want all the Nikita Kucherov I can get tonight. The Avalanche aren’t very good on the road and Justus Annunen is not that guy. I know $9500 on a large slate is a lot to spend, but I can’t see a reason NOT to do it.

Brady Tkachuk, W, Ottawa Senators

Brady Tkachuk was flying last game, and we could see him be just as productive tonight. He finished with three goals and seven shots on goal, for 45 fantasy points. Maybe he doesn’t repeat that tonight, but I do expect him to hit value at his soft $7600 price tag.

Devon Toews, D, Colorado Avalanche

Over the last three games, Devon Toews has been shooting the puck more AND blocking more shots. He’s in a good spot tonight to hit value even if he doesn’t register a point. I think he’s slightly underrated in this spot and is a good alternative to Cale Makar.

Ilya Lyubushkin, D, Anaheim Ducks

This is an elite spot for Ilya Lyubushkin. The veteran defenseman has five blocked shots in 16 minutes against Montreal and could put up similar numbers tonight. Anaheim is going to be bombarded with shots, so this is a good spot for a lot of defensemen. Lyubushkin has the best value due to his dirt-cheap price tag.
