NHL DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

Welcome to day 3 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs! We will see every team that was in action on Monday night play tonight. Boston, Carolina, Minnesota and Los Angeles were all able to secure an early series lead, but we should expect some teams to tie things up. Leon Draisaitl was great in his first game, scoring two goals, and the Boston Bruins were exactly as advertised. We saw a lot of low scoring games on Monday and that trend should continue tonight. You’ll probably want to pay up for a goalie that can stop the puck, even if they aren’t favorites to win. There are a ton of great options to target tonight, so let’s get right into it.

NHL DFS Top Starting Goalies

Top Options for Saves

Linus Ullmark vs Florida Panthers

Antti Raanta vs New York Islanders

Ilya Sorokin vs Carolina Hurricanes

Best Odds for a Win

Linus Ullmark vs Florida Panthers

Stuart Skinner vs Los Angeles Kings

Antti Raanta vs New York Islanders

Favorite Goalies to Use for NHL DFS Lineups

Linus Ullmark, G, Boston Bruins

Despite being questionable to play game 1, Linus Ullmark made the start and stopped 31 of 32 shots. Florida came out with a lot of pace and had a healthy amount of scoring chances, but Ullmark is elite and he’s going to be able to stop pucks. Boston will want to tighten things up defensively, but even if they aren’t perfect, Ullmark will be able to hold down the fort. He could flirt with 35 saves tonight, which would be great for the save bonus on DraftKings

Antti Raanta, G, Carolina Hurricanes

With Frederik Andersen still not ready to return, Antti Raanta will make his second consecutive start. Overall, he was very good in game one, but he didn’t face a ton of scoring chances. Carolina is a really good defensive team, while the Islanders aren’t great at scoring goals. His upside tonight will be limited, but if you think Carolina is going to win this game, then you can go ahead and roster him.

Ilya Sorokin, G, New York Islanders

Ilya Sorokin played very well in game one-- stopping 35 of 37 shots-- but his team only gave him one goal to work with. He still managed to finish with 20.5 fantasy points on DK, so that was more than enough to hit value. He’s going to face a healthy amount of shots tonight and even if he doesn’t get the win, he can still hit value at his discounted price tag. The total in this game is 5.5, and we probably don’t see more than 4 goals being scored.

NHL DFS Top Skaters

Highest Expected Goal Totals

Boston Bruins vs Alex Lyon

Edmonton Oilers vs Joonas Korpisalo

Carolina Hurricanes vs Ilya Sorokin

Dallas Stars vs Filip Gustavsson

Favorite Skaters to Use for NHL DFS Lineups

Leon Draisaitl, C, Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers may have lost game one in their series, but Leon Draisaitl was still elite. He scored two goals and added six shots on goal. He’s been just as good, if not better, than Connor McDavid in the playoffs and he’s almost $2000 less than his teammate on DK. His ownership is going to be up there, but you know exactly what you’re going to get from the Germain centerman.

David Pastrnak, W, Boston Bruins

There are three things you can count on in life: Death, taxes and David Pastrnak scoring a goal. The Bruins’ winger scored a goal last game despite only having two shots on goal. Obviously, we would like to see his shot volume be higher, but the Panthers aren’t an elite defensive hockey team and I expect Pastrnak to continue his strong play. He’s an expensive option, but worth every dollar.

Tyler Bertuzzi, W, Boston Bruins

Tyler Bertuzzi was playing in his first career playoff game and he did not disappoint. He finished with two assists, three shots on goal and two blocked shots. He also played a healthy 18 minutes, so the high ice time and the points are all great things. He’s $4200 and is in a great spot to rack up more points tonight.

Evan Bouchard, D, Edmonton Oilers

At this point, if you aren’t playing Evan Bouchard in DFS, you’re leaving money on the table. He now has goals in three straight games and has blocked six shots in the last two games. He’s playing on the best power play in the world and the Kings are not going to be able to slow it down. Bouchard is priced at $4400 on DK and is great value every night.
