NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, January 9th

Before we get into DFS, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper.

NHL Pick 'Em Picks On Sleeper Fantasy Today

Jack Hughes just LOVES to cook the Rangers. He has four goals against them this season and he’s bound to add another to his total. Igor Shesterkin may be back in goal, but that isn’t going to stop Jack. I’m swinging for the fence here, but I like my chances.

The Avalanche are playing their second game in as many nights and their third in four days. They put up a terrible performance against Chicago, but it might not be any better tonight. Minnesota is dealing with a massive number of injuries, but they’ve still been finding ways to win games. 

Cale Makar is known for his offence, but he also blocks a decent number of shots. He does that even more on the road and considering how much ice time he sees, this one feels like a sure thing. If he can block five against the Blackhawks, there’s no reason he can’t block two tonight.

I want to apologize for trusting Zach Werenski and the Blue Jackets on the road, that’s my bad. This team is good, but only on home ice. Zach Werenski has over 60% of his points at home along with 100 shots on goal. Sean Monahan is out of the lineup, so that just means that Werenski is going to need to shoot the puck even more. He’s a stud on home ice and I’m not betting against that.

 

 

 

Thursday Salary Cap DFS Picks

Goalie Of The Day: Joel Hofer - STL

I know Joel Hofer doesn’t have elite numbers this season, but he’s 4-1-0 on home ice and the Anaheim Ducks are in town. We don’t need to remind everyone how bad the Ducks are on the road, so even though this feels like a trap, I’ll take the bait with Hofer in cash games because he has a great chance of picking up the win and hitting value.

Player Of The Day: Zach Werenski - CBJ

Zach Werenski is averaging 22.5 fantasy points on DraftKings at home. This pace is unbelievable and maybe not sustainable, but right now, it’s hard to argue against him. The Blue Jackets are a good team on home ice at generating scoring chances, so everything is lining up for Werenski to have a good night.

 

 

 

Value Play Of The Day: Vasily Podkolzin - EDM

Vasily Podkolzin has found a home on the second line and is making the most of his opportunity. He didn’t have a point last game, but he did finish with five shots on goal and two blocked shots. Naturally, DK bumped his price DOWN to $2700, because why not? The value he provides the Oilers and our DFS lineup is immense, and he will continue to be a great bargain option as long as he is skating with Leon Draisaitl. This is a good way to get cheap exposure to Edmonton.

Stack Of The Day - VGK PP1 (Jack Eichel - Mark Stone - Shea Theodore)

I’m going to be honest; I have no idea how Islanders fans watch this team on a regular basis and not suffer a heart attack. Not only is this team #NotGood, but they are boring to watch. They have the worst power play in the league AND the worst penalty kill. I don’t love Vegas’ overall matchup, but I will have some exposure to their top power play unit. You’d be foolish to not.
