NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Sunday Playbook

Published: Mar 09, 2025
Welcome to another NHL DFS Playbook! We have a small five-game slate on this beautiful Sunday with a handful of teams playing the tail end of a back-to-back. There is no shortage of value to exploit, so let’s jump right into it.
NHL Pick 'Em At Sleeper Today
Before we get into DFS, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper. There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
Sleeper NHL Picks, Sunday, March 9th:
- Mikko Rantanen O/2.5 SOG
- Logan Stankoven O/2.5 SOG
- Jean Gabriel Pageau O/0.5 P
Mikko Rantanen made a great first impression with his new team, scoring a goal, adding an assist and playing just shy of 22 minutes. The ice time is very encouraging because he’s always been a player who plays a ton. The Canucks are banged up and they aren’t that good defensively. I expect Rantanen to come out and shoot the puck just as much as he did yesterday.
Logan Stankoven is going to make his Carolina debut and it looks like he’ll take Rantanen’s spot on the top line. The kid was stuck on Dallas’ fourth line towards the end of his tenure, but it wasn’t because he’s #NotGood, more because the Stars are just that deep up front. The Hurricanes will want to give their new acquisition a real shot to see what he is made of and they need him to score goals and shoot the puck. It feels risky, but we’ll take the over on his shot total.
I slipped Jean-Gabriel Pageau into the Playbook yesterday and it paid off. With Brock Nelson now in Colorado, a spot on the second line has opened up and Pageau made the most of his opportunity, scoring a goal and adding two assists. He also played over 18 minutes, which is encouraging. I know everyone beats up on the Sharks, but the veteran has another fantastic matchup against Anaheim and I expect him to be able to find the scoresheet in some capacity.
SUNDAY SALARY CAP DFS
Goalie Of The Day: Adin Hill - VGK
This feels like a bad matchup for Vegas, but when you really dig into the numbers, there’s no better goalie matchup on the slate in terms of potential value. Adin Hill and the Golden Knights are lights out at home, while the Kings are playing their second game in as many nights and are just not that good on the road. Hill will get tested, but I do think he can rack up a ton of saves and pick up the win.
Honourable Mention: Lukas Dostal - ANA
It’s not that I trust the Lukas Dostal or the Ducks tonight, it’s more I don’t trust whoever is going to start for the Islanders. They are playing their second game in 24 hours and Ilya Sorokin is coming off a 38-save performance. Patrick Roy could throw him out there again tonight ot turn to Jakub Skarek, who has not been good in his two appearances this season. Dostal will see some rubber and if he can get this game to overtime, he may be able to hit value without picking up the win.
Player Of The Day: Artemi Panarin - NYR
There aren’t a ton of “elite” options to choose from, but Artemi Panarin has a real solid matchup. He’s averaging over a point-per-game at home and gets to face a Columbus team that is horrendous on the road. Panarin shot volume is decent, but he needs to find the scoresheet more than once in order to hit value.
Honorable Mention: Kyle Connor - WPG
It’s a tough matchup for the Jets to go up against Carolina in their barn, but Kyle Connor is still worth taking a look at. He has 18 goals and 42 points in 32 road games and continues to be a high volume shooter. He’s a great candidate to score a goal in this game.
Value Play Of The Day: Logan Stankoven - CAR
We spoke about him earlier, but I’ll repeat myself for those of you who missed it. Logan Stankov is going to get a look on the top line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis and should see a healthy bump in ice time. He’s $3800 on DraftKings, so it’s going to be real hard to fade him in all formats just because of his price tag.
Honorable Mention: Matt Duchene - DAL
At some point, DK has to give Matt Duchene some respect. The veteran centre has 15 points in his last ten games and is now up to 64 on the season. Roope Hintz was forced to leave yesterday’s game after taking a puck to the face, so if he can’t go, Duchene should move up to the top line with Jason Roberson and Mikko Rantanen. Not terrible for a player who is priced at $5400.
Stack Of The Day - NYI PP1 (Bo Horvat - Kyle Palmieri - Noah Dobson)
Listen, I understand that the New York Islanders have a god-awful power play, but the Anaheim Ducks are also not very good on the penalty kill. You could stack the Islanders’ top line and call it a day, but I’d rather have Noah Dobson in my lineup. There aren’t a ton of stacks that I like, but this one, it has the most upside based on the price point.
