DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

We have a massive 11-game slate that includes some elite players in very good matchups.  We have the usual elite players to choose from like Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov, but we can also target some really good value plays. Goalies will once again be a key part of building our lineups. There are some good options to choose from, but not only because they have a high probability of winning the game. Let’s take a look at which players we need to keep an eye on for this slate.

NHL DFS Lineups: Best Goalies to Use

Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning

I know the Tampa Bay Lightning aren’t as great of a team on the road, but their matchup against San Jose is elite. Andrei Vasilevskiy is a very good goalie, and he should be able to handle the shot volume coming his way. He’s expensive, but worth every dollar.

Frederik Andersen, G, Carolina Hurricanes

Frederik Andersen is 4-0 since coming back from his blood clot and has allowed a total of 5 goals in those starts. The Flyers aren’t a very dangerous offensive team and Carolina does a really good job of suppressing shots on goal. Andersen may not see a ton of action, so he’s probably only serviceable in cash games.

Joel Hofer, G, St. Louis Blues

This feels like a tough matchup for St. Louis, but Joel Hoffer has a 2.42 GAA and a .922 SV% on the road this season and the Senators are just a terrible team. The Blues don’t score a ton of goals on the road, so it might be hard for Hofer to pick up the win. That being said, he should be able to do enough to hit value considering how many shots he could face.

Arvid Soderblom, G, Chicago Blackhawks

I know it’s extremely hard to trust Arvid Soderblom and his 4.12 GAA on the road, but let’s not pretend like the Anaheim Ducks are an elite hockey team. They are 31st in goals on home ice, so they are going to struggle to generate chances and find the back of the net. Soderblom is worth a shot in a GPP if you’re looking for a goalie with low ownership.

Logan Thompson, G, Vegas Golden Knights

I really don’t know how I feel about Logan Thompson. His numbers this season have been fine, but he’s been all over the place in his last five starts. Vegas is a better team than Seattle and they need to keep winning games to hold onto a Wild Card spot. I trust Vegas to be able to outscore Seattle, so that should give Thompson a good chance to hit value. I don’t love his price tag, but he’s an option to consider if you want to go down that route.

Highest Expected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks vs. Sam Montembeault (4.2)

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Mackenzie Blackwood (4.4)

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Samuel Ersson (3.8)

NHL DFS Lineups: Best Skaters to Use

Connor McDavid, C, Edmonton Oilers

Connor McDavid is the best player on the planet, and he reminded us of that last game. He finished with two points and nine shots on goal against Montreal. The shot volume is encouraging and at his price point, he needs multiple points to come within range of hitting value. The Sabres aren’t a very good team, so I can see McDavid having another strong night.

Brayden Point, C, Tampa Bay Lightning

Brayden Point is once against putting together another elite season. He has 38 goals on the year, including ten in his last ten games. Tampa does struggle on the road, but San Jose is just a terrible hockey team overall. His $7,500 price tag on DraftKings just seems too low considering how good the matchup on paper is.

Nikita Kucherov, W, Tampa Bay Lightning

Nikita Kucherov has 23 points in the last ten games and is coming off a four-point performance his last time out. Now he gets to torment the Sharks in their own building. I don’t know how you fade this man in cash games, but I recommend that you don’t.

David Pastrnak, W, Boston Bruins

I don’t love Boston’s matchup tonight, but I find it hard to not like David Pastrnak. The Bruins are playing their second game in as many nights, but I don't think that will slow down Pastrnak. He finished yesterday’s game with three goals and seven shots on net and could very well have another fantastic night.

Quinn Hughes, D, Vancouver Canucks

The Montreal Canadiens have been playing slightly better of late, but they are still losing games. Quinn Hughes is an elite defenceman and he has been racking up points all season long. I think he could be in for a very productive evening against a team that allows a ton of shots on goal on the road.

Rasmus Dahlin, D, Buffalo Sabres

I’m taking a shot here with Rasmus Dahlin. He finished the last game with two goals, four shots on goal four blocked shots. We know that he can contribute offensively, but it’s his shot-blocking abilities that really keeps his floor high. Edmonton at home is elite and Dahlin is going to be on the ice a ton trying to slow down McDavid. I think he can do enough to hit value without having to register a point.
