🏒NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/6

🔥 Anaheim Ducks vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction

The Anaheim Ducks lost a close Game 1 to the Vegas Golden Knights, but they still have a chance to achieve a split before returning home. They managed to score only one goal, which was disappointing, but it’s important to credit the Golden Knights; they are a tougher defensive team than the Edmonton Oilers. We could see more goals in the next game, but only if the Ducks generate more traffic and put more pucks on Carter Hart.

In the playoffs so far, Shea Theodore leads all defensemen in blocked shots with 22, which is seven more than his closest teammate, Rasmus Andersson. While Theodore isn't necessarily known as a shot-blocking specialist, under coach John Tortorella, every player is expected to get in the way of shots. The veteran defenseman has blocked nine shots over the last two games. If the Ducks are to increase their shot attempts on net, Theodore might find himself blocking even more pucks. We predict he will block at least 3 shots, offering good value at plus-money.

🔥 Montreal Canadiens vs Buffalo Sabres Prediction

After an intense Game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Montreal Canadiens begin the second round of the playoffs against the Buffalo Sabres. Montreal won three games on the road in the previous round, continuing their solid performance away from the Bell Centre. The teams split their season series, and while some speculate that the Canadiens might experience an emotional letdown, we could see the intensity ramp up early in this matchup.

Montreal is likely to create better scoring opportunities against the Sabres than it did against the Lightning. No disrespect to Buffalo, but they lack a player like Anthony Cirelli to effectively shut down Montreal's top line. However, the Canadiens must maintain their strong defensive play, as the Sabres can generate a significant number of shots.

Both teams will aim to set the tone from the start, which could lead to a few players taking reckless penalties. In the first round, Buffalo converted on less than 5% of their chances but excelled on the penalty kill. In contrast, Montreal scored on over 20% of its opportunities. Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky, and especially Cole Caufield will be expected to produce points early and often.

While we may not witness a high-scoring game, it is reasonable to expect the Canadiens to score at least three goals, enough to cover the Team Total. It might take an empty-net goal to reach this number, but the risk seems worthwhile.
