The Canadiens quickly realized in Game 2 that the Hurricanes were a significantly improved team. The Hurricanes did not give Montreal any space in the offensive zone, resulting in the Canadiens finishing with only 12 shots on goal. The strategies that made the Canadiens successful in Game 1 were largely neutralized. The NHL playoffs are all about adjustments, and we can expect to see that play out tonight.

The Habs discovered how vulnerable Frederik Andersen can be, so they need to put a lot of pucks on him early and often. While Andersen may have rebounded in Game 2, much of that was due to facing few high-danger chances. If the Canadiens, which we believe they will, create more dangerous scoring opportunities, they will likely find the back of the net. Therefore, we are going to take the over on the team total.

It’s evident that the Hurricanes made a concerted effort to be more physical with Lane Hutson, and for good reason. They need to find a way to slow down Montreal’s best puck-moving defenseman. He has registered just one shot on goal in this series, and since Game 3 against the Sabres, he hasn't had more than one shot in any game. While his defensive contributions have been impressive—blocking eight shots in the first two games—he has the ability to create quality offensive chances. He needs to remain a threat to Carolina’s offence during power plays. He logs a lot of ice time, so the opportunities are there; he just needs to focus on getting the puck on net.
