Welcome to the first edition of the season's Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook on this opening night slate! I am excited to bring this article to you the reader once again this season and can't wait to put together another winning season in betting and daily fantasy.

NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today 9/29: Opening Night

 

Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction: Tuesday September 29th

In the start of the new season there are usually a lot of questions about if the team is the same as last year and how will the offseason moves effect the team on the ice. For the Habs I think they will be a similar team to last season and that's one of the higher scoring teams in hockey. They finished 7th in total goals last season so that's a big win but the goaltending and defense will be inconsistent as well. Dobes who is expected to start had an uneven start to last season allowing 40 goals in 12 his first dozen starts. He has great games, he has head scratchers it happens with a young goalie. 

On the Maple Leafs side they did a lot this offseason after missing the playoffs for the first time in awhile. Gavin McKenna the draft's prized trophy landed in their lap and just yesterday they swung a deal for the Blue Jackets leading goal scorer a season ago in Kirill Marchenko. Sergei Bobrovsky formerly of the Florida Panthers is also now the starting goaltender. The Leafs on paper have one of the most intriguing top six forward groups in hockey now but will it come together? 

I think at least for tonight this is the high scoring game to watch on the slate as its one of the few with a 6.5 game total. Let's take the over and see if the preseason projections from these talented forwards come to fruition

Goalie of The Day - Igor Shesterkin - NYR

Outside of the pair of heavy underdogs in the Canucks and Blackhawks the Bruins have the lowest implied goal total on this slate tonight at 2.7 goals. That sets up the Ranger goalie for a nice game and looking back at the last three seasons Shesterkin has started campaigns well with a 2.58, 2.43 and 2.33 GAA in October. Let's bet on him to stay hot for us tonight. 

Player of The Day: Connor McDavid - EDM

Its the opening night in hockey, we should feature the best player in the sport right? Its not just his reputation we are playing though its also the matchup against Vancouver. They were one of the worst defensive teams in the sport last season and they didn't do a lot to fix it this offseason. McDavid has 75 career points against the Canucks in 46 games, let's count up a few more for him tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Chris Kreider - MTL

I will say you don't have to like the guy, I don't either but he stays productive most seasons and now he lands on the Canadiens top line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield! That kind of exposure at the price point of under 5k on DraftKings is hard to beat. In a game that could be the highest scoring of the night he is a huge value. 

Defenseman Play of the Day: Evan Bouchard - EDM

Another in the bucket for the Oilers tonight as they could put up 5+ goals on the Canucks. Every season is a new one but Vancouver is a bad team heading nowhere and they allowed the 3rd most DFS points per game to blue liners last season. Fire up the QB of the Oilers powerplay in Bouchard tonight. 

 

Top Stack of the Day: Oilers Line 1

It looks like at least for now we are going to get some McDavid and Draisaitl side by side action to start the season. According to Daily Faceoff they make up the top line with Vasily Podkolzin and while its an expensive line they could generate a handful of points in an instant. Full fade of Vancouver tonight, let's go Oilers.
