Another day of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are here! One of the best times on the sports calendar without a doubt is going on daily and I can't wait to talk about the the games and the series and all the betting/DFS that comes with it. NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/2

 

Flyers vs. Hurricanes Predictions

With all but one series wrapped up from Round 1 we move forward in the Conference Semifinals and in the Metro it features a matchup between the Flyers and Hurricanes. The Flyers got here by dominating games 1-3 against the Penguins but looked very beatable in the 3 games that followed. The Hurricanes on the other hand look locked and loaded for another run after sweeping the Senators easily. 

For Game 1 I expect both teams to stick to their guns and that's defense first. Over 6 games the Flyers only gave up 5 even strength goals and their goaltender Dan Vladar was rock solid with 6.9 goals saved above expected the 2nd best mark in the playoffs. On the Carolina side its much of the same they gave up only 3 goals through 4 games with 5 on 5 on the ice and their goaltender Frederik Andersen beat the allegations of a choker for now. Andersen in just 4 games leads the playoffs in goals saved above expected at 7.6! 

The Flyers lack of offense will also help the cause towards betting the under, which is my pick here tonight. In their 6 games they scored just 11 at even strength and they generated just 9.55 expected goals. Let the coaches move the chess pieces here and expect a low scoring tight checking Game 1.

Goalie of The Day - Frederik Andersen - CAR

Its a 50/50 shot here so let's take the home side goaltender that is heavily favored. Andersen in just 4 games leads the playoffs in goals saved above expected at 7.6 and he looks crisp in the crease thus far. Will he eventually unravel, probably but not tonight. 

Captain Play: Logan Stankoven - CAR

Believe it or not but Stankoven was Carolina's best player in the first round, at least in the skaters department. He generated 3.1 expected goals in 4 games, that was the highest mark on the team and its wasn't close. His line of Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake is also the best offensive group in the entire postseason with 3.9 goals expected for them. He's not the most expensive player but he's without a doubt my captain. 

Value Play of The Day: Noah Cates - PHI

The line of Cates, Bump and Foerster didn't get a ton of love but they put up 4 goals in the Penguins series. They're all cheap but Cates gets you a better price tag and exposure to the rest of that line. Don't know who they'll be matchup up with but they'll be a pain in the neck for sure.
