NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/7

 

Blue Jackets & Red Wings Prediction 

I don't mean to say that some games don't matter on this slate but this one just matters the most. The winner of this game will likely head to the playoffs and the loser will fall just short in the Eastern Conference! One thing you can count on is this game being tight and highly competitive and I believe that helps a wager on the game total. 

The Blue Jackets have been one of the leagues best defense's going back 10 games now especially at even strength where they've given up just 1.5 goals per game. The Columbus offense struggled though which has lead to the loses scoring 1.9 goals per game within the same parameters. On the Detroit side they've slid so far its hard to remember when they were in first place of the Atlantic Division. Their offense is the main reason as they played without captain Dylan Larkin for awhile and over the last 10 game at 5 on 5 hockey they've posted just 1.9 goals per game. 

These numbers lead me to think this one goes under tonight and with the total sitting as high as 6.5 in spots I have to fade that number especially given the play of both goaltenders in John Gibson (2.62 GAA) and Jet Greaves (2.58 GAA).

Predators & Ducks Prediction 

The Predators played less than 24 hours again and tonight they are back in action again. I like the way this team has rebounded even if they end up missing the playoffs but I think they may steal a win tonight on the road. 

Nashville has put themselves into the playoff race after having won 7 of their last 10 games and has seen a big improvement in their defense allowing 2.1 goals per game at even strength. The offense has been propped up by the powerplay of course with 3.3 goals per game in all situations being scored and that could be a big stat considering the Ducks take a fair amount of penalties. Anaheim has also let the entire defense slip allowing 24 goals during their 5 game losing streak. I just feel like the arrow is ticking up for Nashville and they'll be desperate, give me the Predators on the Money Line at plus money.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Jesper Wallstedt - MIN

There are no shortages of plays in the crease tonight but my top pick is going to go with Minnesota's rookie Wallstedt! He has had an up and down season but the matchup against a Seattle team that is scoring just 1.9 goals per game at even strength is just too good to ignore. The goaltender is 7-5-2 in 12 starts this season at home with a .908 SV% with great win equity as well so let's go ahead and lock him into the lineups.

Player of The Day: Jack Eichel - VGK

Let me say that nothing about Vegas has been impressive since the Olympic break but sometimes you get a break in the schedule and that's tonight against the Canucks. Vancouver has given up 3.8 goals per game at even strength over the last 10 games and they allow the MOST DFS points in the NHL this season to centers. Eichel is not anywhere near the highest price for good reason but tonight is a matchup he could blow up some fireworks. 

Value Play of The Day: Owen Tippett - PHI

A Flyer in the playbook? GROSS! It takes a lot to get me to swallow the medicine but the Flyers are in a must win game tonight and they're most clutch player has been Tippett by far. He leads the team with 28 goals on the season and will looks to pile more on a Devils team that has been inconsistent on the defensive end. New Jersey allows the 10th most DFS points to right wingers on the season so let's go cheap against them and hope for some more goals.
