NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/30

 

Oilers & Ducks Prediction 

I will just come out and say it, I don't think tonight is the end for the Oilers. Whether they deserve a better fate or not is up you the hockey fans out there but I think when push comes to shove against a team like the Ducks they will come out on top. 

They've held the better of play overall for 5 games and are coming off their most dominant game of the series in a 4-1 win in Game 5. That game saw Edmonton build on their series advantage of even strength play with 15 total goals through 5 games. The Ducks just can't run with them at full speed right now and their goaltender Lukas Dostal has been the worst goaltender in the playoffs with 18 goals allowed and a .864 SV%. Combine that with the fact that Leon Draisaitl has found his game again post injury layoff, give me the Oilers to even the series at a fair value on the Money Line here tonight. 

In addition to the game another trend that can't be ignored is the play of the young superstar Leo Carlsson. He's been far and away the best player for the Ducks this series generating chances and piling on the shots. The Oilers have allowed 32.6 shots on goal per game this series and Carlsson has 22 shots to his name thus far, seems like a layup to bet on him to go over 3.5 shots on goal.

Goalie of The Day - Jesper Wallstedt - MIN

With just 4 goalies to choose from it becomes a fairly easy process of elimation here for goalie of the day. Do I want a goaltender from a game total that is 7 with Edmonton and Anaheim? Probably not the best idea! Instead let me focus on the game with adults on the ice that actually play defense. Wallstedt has been exactly what the Wild have needed this series, a steady hand in the net, something they've missed in the past. He has saved 3.4 goals above expected thus far which is 6th best among goaltenders this postseason and I think the Wild close the series out tonight so he's my goalie of the day!

Player of The Day: Leon Draisaitl - EDM

If you want to pick McDavid I don't blame you but honestly Draisaitl has been better in this series by a good margin. He leads the Oilers in expected goals and high danger chances and on the plain stats side he has 9 points and 12 shots through 5 games. With McDavid constantly drawing Trouba it opens things up for co-star of Draisaitl so make sure to play him tonight!

Value Play of The Day: Alex Killorn - ANA

You can try to kill the man but will never get rid of the idea of him, that is the story of 2026 Killorn. We know him from years with Tampa Bay but now he's back in the dance and he's making some waves. In the 5 games of the series he has 3 goals but he's also leading the Ducks in expected goals and Corsi ratings. Sounds odd for a guy priced at 3.4k on DraftKings but he's been very productive for the Ducks and I like that to continue tonight.
