🏒 NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/9
Interestingly enough, we’ve actually got more (late) afternoon hockey to enjoy today, despite it being a weekday; we’ve got Kings vs. Blue Jackets at 4 PM ET, so fans out in Los Angeles will definitely be locking in NHL expert picks earlier than usual. That’s why we’re here to help with that with our NHL best bets today.
In fact, one of our top picks is with that interconference clash, and our other is with the nightcap of the slate (Senators vs. Canucks). So, before we get into those and our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions, what about the other matchups? Well, we’ve got a Metro Division matchup with Rangers vs. Flyers - don’t be surprised if goals are at a premium there.
There is also another interconference battle in the nation's capital with Flames vs. Capitals, where we expect Washington to bounce back, and is an honorable mention for our NHL best bets today. We also won’t have Mammoth vs. Blackhawks as a top pick, but since we also have NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions to break down, let’s get into our favorite spots!
🔥 Kings vs. Blue Jackets Prediction: Under 6.5 Goals (-133 at Novig)
As promised, the first of our NHL best bets today is with that earlier game, so let’s try to get a nice early payout. We’re looking to do so by actually rooting AGAINST goals. The Kings have been a team allowing fewer than six goals per game for quite a few seasons now, while also ranking in the bottom half in terms of scoring.
So, that half of things shouldn’t be too surprising. Nor should the fact that LA has the fourth-best record for hitting unders in the entire NHL. Similarly, Columbus has the seventh-best record in that same regard, hence the start of our NHL best bets today.
In recent seasons, the issue has been the Jackets allowing too many goals themselves, but they’re at least in the middle of the pack in that respect this season. Even if they do have some regression, LA isn’t the type of team to fully capitalize like the Oilers or Avs. Unders may not be your thing, but the first of our NHL best bets today is under 6.5 goals (-133 at Novig).
🔥 Senators vs. Canucks Prediction: Over 6.5 Goals (-102 at Novig)
Ok, NOW we get to root FOR goals to close out the night! Given that Vancouver is involved, it shouldn’t take too long to see why. They’re allowing a ton of pressure on net (fourth-most shots per game), which has led to poor goaltending numbers (MOST goals allowed per game, by quite a wide margin).
To relate back to the first of our NHL best bets today, the Canucks have the fifth-best record for hitting the over this season. As for Ottawa, they have the seventh-best record for that same market. One of which was their most recent matchup, scoring seven goals on the road against the Seattle Kraken.
For this all-Canadian clash, we’re adding to our NHL best bets today with over 6.5 goals (-102 at Novig).

- Mika Zibanejad: Over 2.5 (-103) vs. Under 2.5 (-114)

- Adam Fox: Over 0.5 (-101) vs. Under 0.5 (-119)
- Clayton Keller: Over 0.5 (-107) vs. Under 0.5 (-116)
🏒 Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
🏅 Skater of the Day: Clayton Keller
It’s important to first point out that with the Kings vs. Blue Jackets game being an earlier one at 4 PM ET, it is NOT part of the main slates! At least you have one of our NHL best bets today focused on that matchup since we’re not going to include it within NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions, with the majority of fans focused on main slates.
This means that we have just four games to check out, and we’ve got our eyes on a skater we listed within the player props above. That would be Utah Mammoth’s Clayton Keller taking on the Chicago Blackhawks, who were just on the ice last night.
Not only that, but they were forced into overtime while dealing with a tough Dallas Stars squad, so they are far from in a good spot. Since the return from the Olympic break, Chicago has allowed nearly 3.5 goals per game, and for the season, are allowing the 10th-most shots per game. So, Clayton Keller starts our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
🏅 Goalie of the Day: Dan Vladar
Swapping from skaters to netminders, we’ve got our eyes on the Rangers vs. Flyers game. Of course, Igor Shesterkin is always a consideration, but Vladar is flying a bit under the radar. New York may still have Vincent Trocheck after not trading him at the deadline, but that only helps our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
That’s because between him and Mika Zibanejad, they can pepper Vladar with shots, meaning more save opportunities. We aren’t worried about too many of them finding the back of the net, as the Rangers have scored the sixth-fewest goals per game this season, and since the break, the Flyers have allowed the third-fewest goals per game.
Since we aren’t expecting a ton of fireworks in this game overall, we’ve got Dan Vladar as part of our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
🏅 Value Pick of the Day: Elias Pettersson
When it comes to the value side of things, we’re going to focus on the DraftKings pricing given how great we feel about Elias Pettersson. The stud Vancouver Canuck isn’t on a good team and would much prefer if he still had Quinn Hughes alongside him, but we aren’t worried about his team winning the game.
Interestingly enough, the Ottawa Senators haven’t exactly thrived against their cross-Canadian foes anyway, which should only help Pettersson. Speaking of the Sens, we have him on par with Tim Stutzle, who is priced at $6,700, while Pettersson is a full $2,000 cheaper!
Again, this is for the DK slate, but as for another consideration with our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions on FD, Owen Tipper also provides some value (keep in mind going against Shesterkin, however!).
