NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/7

 

Senators vs. Kraken Prediction 

As the playoff race tightens these two teams find themselves right in the thick of things and this game is a big one for both the Senators and Kraken. Each team has their flaws but defense of late is not one of them and I indeed to exploit their trends for our gain! Over the past 10 games the Senators have been the 2nd best even strength team when it comes to goals allowed at just 1.4 and what's more impressive is that their expected number is 1.8 so not far off at all. The Kraken have number a bit higher but 1.6 goals against in the same time period isn't anything to scoff at either. Seattle also has an offensive problem with expected goals of just 1.8 per game over their last 10. Ullmark is expected in the cage for Ottawa tonight and that also strengthens the case for a low scoring game as he's allowed 10 goals over his last 4 starts and has been excellent overall since his return in February. This won't be a game to target in DFS but the total of 6 is one to attack on the under.

Canadiens vs. Kings Prediction 

Here comes the unofficial olive branch to my guy Chris Morais after what I said about Tim Hortons during the Olympics. I like the Canadiens in this spot tonight going against a Kings team that remains shorthanded and has played poorly at home all season at 10-21 straight up. The Habs are playing a back to back but there's no real travel involved between Anaheim to Los Angeles so that narrative is thin at best. They're also young up front and score in bunches something the Kings know nothing about as they've posted just 1.4 goals per game at even strength over their last 10, the 5th lowest mark in the NHL. Jakub Dobes also figures to start which is an upgrade over Montembeault last night in a big way. Good value on the books as well for Montreal tonight so let's take them as slight underdogs on the Money Line.

Goalie of The Day - Brandon Bussi - CAR

It could be the case that the Flames don't press Carolina very much in this game tonight but the floor is sturdy as it can be for Bussi in the crease tonight. The Flames have no offense to speak of and the Canes goalie is 25-3-1 on the season, outrageous stat so let's plug him into the lineups.  

Player of The Day: Nikita Kucherov - TB

I will say that the Lightning have fallen on hard times since returning from the Olympic break having lost 4 of their last 5 games but tonight is a massive get right spot against arguably the worst team in hockey right now in the Maple Leafs. Toronto is allowing the 5th most DFS points to right wingers on the season and the last time Kuch played them he came out with 3 total points so I think he builds on that for a massive win and performance. 

Value Play of The Day: Juraj Slafkovsky - MON

It seems like all his goals were spent during the Olympics but now after 4 games with no goals he is due once again for the big game. Kings are teetering on their breaking point right now and a good shove could blow this one wide open. Kings also allow the 8th most DFS points to right wingers on the season which doesn't hurt but one goal for a guy at 5.4k on DraftKings and we are returning that value.
