NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/5

 

Senators vs. Flames Prediction 

The matchup tonight between the Senators and Flames features teams on different sides of the fence as the Senators are battling for a playoff spot and the Flames has risen the white flag on their season. MacKenzie Weegar is now in Utah and now the Flames are without their top two defenseman they came into the season with and they're in bad shape. The Flames over their past 10 games have scored just 1.3 goals per game at even strength which is the 4th fewest in the NHL and they lost 7 of those 10 games. On the Ottawa side they are trending up with 6 wins over 10 games and the offense has scored 3.5 goals per game in all situations during that stretch. Senators are of course heavy favorites due to these trends but with a win in regulation on the 60-minute Money Line there is a ton of value. Senators win this one tonight without issue so lock this wager in as the top bet of the night.

Mammoth vs. Flyers Prediction 

Here we go folks the Mammoth are swinging for the fences this trade season and it seems like the time is now in Utah. They present a unique challenge as they play fantastic defense and their forwards have just enough talent to make them dangerous. Over Utah's last 10 games they've allowed just 1.3 goals against at even strength which is the best mark in the NHL during that time. The Flyers will be hard pressed to push them too as they've scored just 1.3 goals per game 5 on 5. With just those numbers this one could be slow in the goal scoring department as the Flyers play damn good defense of their own and goaltender Dan Vladar has been very good of late. Vladar has allowed two goals or fewer in 5 straight games heading into tonight so Philadelphia may not win but at home they keep this game under wraps and it will go under the 6 goal total.

Goalie of The Day - Ilya Sorokin - NYI

Ilya Sorokin has been a mainstay at goaltender for my DFS lineups this season and for good reason as he leads all goaltenders in goals saved above expected at 27.8. Sorokin should continue his dominance tonight as well going against a Kings team that is struggling on offense and has a couple key injuries. Kings over their last 10 games at even strength have scored 1.1 goals per game so I love the spot for the Islanders goalie tonight.  

Player of The Day: David Pastrnak - BOS

Its a good matchup day for multiple wingers but Pastrnak is the apple of my eye today. The Bruins are playing good enough hockey of late and they have everything to play for right now with the playoffs approaching. The Predators allow the 3rd most DFS points to right wingers on the season is way overdue to find the back of the net so let's lock him into the lineups this evening. 

Value Play of The Day: Adam Fantilli - CBJ

I had Fantilli as my value of the day on Thursday and it turned out to be a great call as he scored yet another goal which makes 4 in the last 4 games now. The Blue Jackets are in another great matchup tonight against a floundering Florida team that is about to give up on their season soon. Panthers allow the 6th most DFS points to centers on the year so this is a great spot for a center at just 6.1k on DraftKings.
