NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/04

Vegas Golden Knights vs Detroit Red Wings Prediction

Is there something I’m missing in this matchup? Why is the total set at 5.5? Adin Hill has been statistically one of the worst goalies, while Cam Talbot has only one win in 2026, which came in his last outing in relief of John Gibson. The Golden Knights and Red Wings are likely to trade scoring chances throughout the game, making it a potentially long night for the goalies. There's a realistic chance that we'll see the over hit before the end of the second period.

 

 

 

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of the Day: Brandon Bussi - CAR

Brandon Bussi is clearly the top choice in this matchup. He has won eight consecutive games and is making a strong case to be the team's starting goalie. While Frederik Andersen has performed well, the Hurricanes are likely to continue their goalie rotation to avoid keeping either goalie out for too long. The Canucks, on the other hand, have struggled offensively, scoring two or fewer goals in nine straight games, and they’ve lost six in a row. Although Bussi comes at a high price, he is undoubtedly the best option for cash games.

Honourable Mention: Jake Allen - NJ

Jake Allen has recorded one win in 2026, but the blame shouldn't fall solely on him. In his eight losses, his team has scored just one goal on five occasions. In the last three games, he has received a total of only three goals of support. There’s only so much a goalie can do. The Maple Leafs are in town, and they struggle to score on the road, as well as to generate any offence in general. This could mean Allen will have low ownership and a very attractive price tag. While he carries some risk in GPPs, the potential for high reward is definitely there.

Player of the Day: Dylan Larkin - DET

There are several expensive options to choose from in this slate, but my favourite is Dylan Larkin. As mentioned earlier, the Golden Knights are experiencing poor goaltending, and Larkin has been shooting the puck frequently since returning from the Olympics. He has a strong chance of scoring and providing good value.

Honourable Mention: Pavel Dorofeyev - VGK

Can you identify the trend? I’m focusing heavily on one game, which means we either come out ahead or face a significant loss like the Maple Leafs. Mark Stone won’t be playing tonight, which gives Pavel Dorofeyev a great opportunity. He is just one goal away from reaching 30 for the season, and I can't see him leaving Detroit without achieving that milestone. He’s another player in an excellent matchup at a reasonable price.

Value Play of the Day: Elias Pettersson - VAN

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Elias Pettersson was once regarded as a future superstar, but now he’s priced at $4,800 on DraftKings and has recorded zero shots on goal in the last three games. So, why should we consider him? Surprisingly, he’s been blocking shots! Is that what the Canucks pay him $11.5 million to do? Not exactly, but in Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), blocked shots count for points and can help our lineup. The lack of offensive production is a team issue, but if the Canucks do manage to score, Pettersson is likely to be involved. The Hurricanes lead the league in shots on goal while on the road, so Pettersson could hit the blocked shots bonus before the night is over.
