NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/31

 

Flyers & Capitals Prediction 

The playoff race in the eastern conference will be studied all offseason when its all said and done but right now its scorching hot. The Flyers are the newest team in the race having won 8 of their last 10 games and are now just 2 points from a wild card spot. That makes this game massive and given their defense I like the spot for them tonight. As a roster they've given up just 1 goal per game over the last 10 at even strength and that's best in the NHL right now. On offense they aren't scoring a ton at 1.9 per game but their expected goals share in at least 2.2 putting them near average. Philly has also been a very good road team all season with a record of 20-12-4. Things are pointing towards the Flyers tonight and while the Capitals aren't going to roll over and let them win, there will be so much more desperation on the visitor side. Philly on the Money Line is the play and plus money at that!

Kraken vs. Oilers Prediction 

The 2026 season is starting the come off the rails for the Kraken and I don't think it gets on track for them tonight. Losers of 7 of the last 10 games Seattle will be hosted by an Oilers team that has its mojo back and have won 3 straight games heading into tonight. The Kraken demise has come at the hands of their defense over the last 10 games as they've given up 2.7 even strength goals per game, the 3rd most in the NHL. They have also fallen out of the playoff picture, although its not over for them yet. 

On the other side the Oilers are trending back up again as we head to April, stop me if you've heard that one before. Their last 3 wins were against tough opponents with the Ducks, Golden Knight and Mammoth all of which are teams much better than the Kraken. Defensive numbers are improving for Edmonton as well with a expected goals against total of 1.78 over their last 10 games of 5 on 5 hockey. Leon Draisaitl may be out of the lineup but the Oilers are playing good hockey again and I like them to have this win sorted out in 60 minutes.

Goalie of The Day - Linus Ullmark - OTT

I have said this a lot lately but its a must win game for the Senators again! Ullmark has been a rock for the Sens over the past couple of months and I don't think a meeting with the Panthers is going to knock him off course. Ullmark is 6-2 this month with a 2.6 GAA and 1 shutout. Those are good enough numbers to beat a Florida team that is tanking till end of season and has scored just 1.9 even strength goals per game over their last 10. Ullmark, hit the lock button!

Player of The Day: Jack Hughes - NJ

Time to promote the toothless wonder, Jacky Hughes! In a slate with McDavid he will be in some of my lineups but I love the pivot to the Rangers-Devils game that could be a sloppy one on defense. Hughes is 9k and not the biggest shot to the wallet but he's producing like a mega star with 4 goals in the last 5 games and 9 total points. On top of that he has 24 shots during that span too so a great floor to fall back on. This play just feels right even though the teams are so wrong. 

Value Play of The Day: Gabriel Vilardi - WPG

When looking at the Jets tonight, they are all cheaper than they ought to be considering their matchup with Chicago. The best value of the day can be found with Vilardi who skates on the top forward line and powerplay unit. In addition to that he has 2 goals in the last 4 games and 6 total points which more than pays a return on his price. Chicago also allows the 6th most DFS points to right wingers on the season so let's plug in some Jets and our value of play of the day Vildari.
