NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/28

 

Capitals & Golden Knights Prediction 

I learned an important lesson with the Thursday slate and its one I stay behind but its trust the numbers and trends in how they help your process. The Capitals had an explosion on offense against Utah scoring 7 goals but it shouldn't stop me from looking at them as a team that has scored just 1.7 even strength goals in the last 10 games. A broken clock is right twice a day as they say but a tiger doesn't change its stripes. Washington has been playing in snoozers and I believe it continues tonight in the desert. The Capitals defense has given up just 1.3 even strength goals over the last 10 games which is tied for 2nd best during that time. On the Vegas side they've played average defense allowing 1.7 but their offense has stalled in a major way score only 1.4 goals per game in the last 10 contest which is dead last in the league. The fact that this game could have a total of 6.5 is bizarre to me but I'll take that number and fade the total all the way to bank!

Jets vs. Avalanche Prediction 

We are getting very close to calling curtains on the Winnipeg Jets 2025-2026 season which is a shock looking back but they haven't been a good team at all this season with 30 regulation losses so far. Today the misery continues as they visit the Avalanche who are the best home team in the game this season at 23-6-5 and 18-16 ATS. This puts Colorado Puck Line on my radar right away considering the dominance of the home team and the Jets having the 4th worst road ATS record in the NHL. Recent form hasn't shown the full power of the Avs either as they've scored just 3 goals per game over their past 10 but the expected goals number is nearly 3.9 per game. I don't see the Jets standing in the way of some statistical regression in a positive way so give me the home team Avalanche to cover the Puck Line of -1.5 this evening.

Goalie of The Day - Jet Greaves - CBJ

The Blue Jackets are a freight train from hell right now and Rick Bowness doesn't seem to have his team letting up anytime soon. They'll host the Sharks today which can be tricky for some but Columbus has defense on lock down of late allowing just 1.3 goals per game at even strength over the last 10 games. Greaves behind that front moves to the top of my goalie rankings today but he's also had a nice run himself as over 9 starts in March he has a 2.13 GAA and .915 SV% both fantastic numbers. He probably won't be the most popular pick on the slate but he's locked in tonight for me. 

Player of The Day: Nathan MacKinnon - COL

With just 7 games on the slate there isn't elite star power to harness other than of course MacKinnon. He will go against a Jets team that has had injuries and defensive lapses define their season and for a player that has 117 points on the season he should get right to work on the attack. MacKinnon comes into tonight with 3 goals and 9 shots in his last pair of games and I would expect much of the same here tonight against the Winnipeg defense. 

Value Play of The Day: Jordan Kyrou - STL

When I was researching for the playbook today I just assumed I would plug in Dylan Holloway for this spot but then I saw his DK price at 7k and decided to zig-zag a bit. Kyrou stuck out to me as I already wanted some St. Louis tonight and his price has dipped to 5.4k. Against a Maple Leafs team that allows the 3rd most points to right wingers in DFS this season its already a bargain but Kyrou can score goals too as he has twice in the last 3 games so let's give some love to the vet here tonight.
