NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/24

 

Ducks vs. Canucks Prediction 

Don't look now but the Ducks are running point in the Pacific Division with only 3 weeks to go in the regular season! Its been a war of attrition out west but props to the Ducks for pulling a 180 on their rebuild this year and tonight they should bolster their lead in the standings with a matchup against the lowly Canucks. Vancouver was the first team eliminated from postseason contention this week as they sit at 3-7 over their last 10 matchups and things are going to get worse. At even strength the Canucks allow the most goals per game at 3.1 in the NHL over the past 10 and opposite of that they've scored just 1.7 the other way. That horrible hockey on a magnitude not often seen. On the visitor side the Ducks are playing plus hockey over their last 10 scoring 2.2 goals per game while allowing 2 and have won 6 of those games. This one is juiced up on the Ducks side and that's fair given the stats behind this matchup but I am going to equalize things by throwing down a 60-Minute Money Line and betting on the Ducks to win the game in regulation as my favorite wager of the night. 

Pick: Ducks 60-Min Money Line (-110 on DraftKings)

Senators vs. Red Wings Prediction 

This one is a huge matchup in the Eastern Conference playoff race as both teams need a win tonight but instead of picking the victor I am looking at the total. Both teams have played top notch defense over their past 10 games and they look to be playing playoff style hockey in March. The Senators have allowed just 1.7 goals per game at even strength during the 10 game stretch the 10th best mark in the league and the Red Wings have given up just 1.5 goals in the same specifications. The only outlier in the game in the Ottawa offense as its been clicking with 2.2 goals at 5 on 5 but they are playing the second leg of a back to back on the road and this time of year those legs get heavier. The Red Wings offense could be without leading point scorer Dylan Larkin again tonight and that means their 1.9 goals per game offense will skate again. The total is 6 goals in various places and that's a great number to wager on for the under tonight.

Goalie of The Day - Jeremy Swayman - BOS

The Maple Leafs are coming to town and that's a great thing for opposing goaltenders these days. Toronto's offense has bottomed out scoring just 1.6 expected goals at even strength over the last 10 games and Auston Matthews will be out of the lineup for the foreseeable future. This puts Swayman in the drivers seat without much danger and his home track record has been amazing. In 23 starts this season Swayman in 17-5-1 with a 2.21 GAA at home and he should be in line for another win tonight so let's lock in the man from Anchorage, Alaska as our goalie of the day. 

Player of The Day: Macklin Celebrini - SJ

On a night where we have 15 games on the docket its tough to spotlight just one name but if anyone has earned it its Celebrini! While Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid have somewhat tough matchups the kid has the Predators who allow the 6th most DFS points to centers on the season. He has been held to just 1 point over his last 3 games but recent numbers are a fluke, load up some Celebrini tonight and don't think twice, its alright.  

Value Play of The Day: Dylan Guenther - UTA

At this point you were wondering when I would attack the Edmonton defense well wonder no more! The Oilers defense is a joke and forwards for Utah are set up nicely tonight and none more than the breakout star Guenther who has 33 goals on the season. His opponent tonight allows the 4th most DFS points per game to right wingers on the season and he has 3 goals and 12 shots over his last 5 games, seems like a bargain at 6.8k to me.
