🏒 NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/2

The aforementioned afternoon clash is one in the Music City with the Nashville Predators hosting the Detroit Red Wings. It’s an interesting one with the Wings actually keeping their hopes of a top seed intact, while the Preds would just like to get into the dance.

It’s a game that provides some opportunity in terms of NHL best bets today, and NHL expert picks, as Nashville’s goaltending and overall pressure allowed on net are areas where Detroit can exploit them. As for the other NHL Network matchup, we’ve got Blue Jackets vs. Rangers, so one that’s unlikely to feature playoff teams.

It’s not going to be one where we focus our NHL best bets today or even NHL cheat sheet predictions, but we do see opportunities with that afternoon game and then the later part of the slate.

🔥 Red Wings vs. Predators Prediction: Detroit ML (-107 at Novig)

We’re going to get started with that early clash, so there is no time to waste. We’ve got Hockeytown taking down Music City in this interconference clash. Nashville’s the team coming off a victory, but Detroit also had to deal with a very strong Carolina Hurricanes squad.

They’re still a focus of our NHL best bets today with the Preds ranking inside the top 10 in terms of shots allowed, goals allowed AND penalties. Detroit may not be the Colorado Avalanche, but they have guys that exploit those areas with Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond, and even Patrick Kane.

Let’s try to get an early cash before the night slate even starts with the first pick from our NHL best bets today on the Red Wings ML (-107 at Novig).

🔥 Stars vs. Canucks Prediction: Under 6 Goals (-131 at Novig)

One of those later games is one in which we expect few fireworks. Vancouver provides that with their inability to find the back of the net, so that’s the easier part of this matchup. The Canucks score the third-fewest goals per game, while Dallas allows the third-fewest; again, a perfect recipe for our NHL best bets today.

The pushback would be with Dallas scoring too much on Vancouver. However, the Stars are without Mikko Rantanen. Without that firepower, they are much more like the team the past few seasons that prefers to rely on the play of netminder Jake Oettinger. They do have Jason Robertson, but they still needed OT to get three goals against the above Preds.

We know that it’s not the most fun pick to root for, but we’re adding to our NHL best bets today with Stars vs. Canucks under six goals (-131 at Novig).

🏅 Skater of the Day: Lucas Raymond

We’re heading right back to that Red Wings vs. Predators afternoon matchup. We’ve already noted Nashville’s defensive struggles, so there’s not much more to discuss here. Raymond is, of course, on the first power play unit, and with Larkin and DeBrincat being the volume shooters, we’re expecting an assist or two here.

His linemates could certainly be targets as well, but we like the value here. Speaking of that PP unit, Detroit also ranks inside the top 10 in PP%, and with what we noted about the Preds’ penalty issues, that could certainly play a part. 🏅 Goalie of the Day: Igor Shesterkin

As far as goaltenders go, as you can see, we aren’t holding back. The former Vezina Trophy winner may not be on an elite team these days, but he’s got an opportunity to carry your lineup, hence why he’s part of our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.

The Rangers are on home ice and hosting the Blue Jackets. That’s an awesome matchup with Columbus taking the fifth-most shots per game while remaining in the middle of the pack in terms of finding the back of the net with those shots. The same can be said for the Rangers on the opposite ends of those spectrums.

When these teams met earlier this season, the Jackets scored just a single goal, and Shesterkin racked up 26 saves. We won’t be surprised to see 30+ this time around, making him part of our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.

🏅 Value Pick of the Day: Christian Dvorak

When it comes to the Philadelphia Flyers, Travis Konecny gets the lion’s share of the attention, and rightfully so - he’s averaging nearly a point per game. That said, with the price we’re getting for his linemate (on the top line, no less), we’ve got Dvorak as part of our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.

He’s the center for that top line with 36 points and 111 shots on goal in 58 games. While those aren’t jaw-dropping numbers, he gets to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. That’s a squad that allows the absolute most shots per game AND fourth-most goals per game. Dvorak has also had a point in both games vs. Toronto this season.
