NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 2/4

Chicago Blackhawks vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction

The Blackhawks have faced challenges in their recent games, losing four out of their last five. Tonight, they face the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have won 10 of their last 11 games and are on a five-game winning streak. Despite the Blue Jackets playing on back-to-back nights, they remain the stronger team overall. Chicago will likely struggle to keep up with Columbus's high-powered offence.

San Jose Sharks vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction

After a promising start to the season, the Colorado Avalanche seem to have hit a wall. They were shut out 2-0 by the Red Wings on Monday and have lost three of their last four games. Martin Necas has been ruled out for this game, but Devon Toews has returned, which will bolster the blue line.

The San Jose Sharks rely heavily on offence and lack defensive strength. They are coming off a 6-3 victory; however, this team generally struggles to defend on the road. Varol Salav Askarov has a goals-against average (GAA) of 3.55, and that number could increase before the night is over.

This presents a good opportunity for the Avalanche to bounce back. We should expect them to come out strong and score a significant number of goals.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of the Day: Jet Greaves -CBJ

The best value by far is Jet Greaves. Columbus has scored many goals over the past month, and its defensive play has improved. Greaves has won five of his last six starts, including three consecutive victories. He is reasonably priced and will face a Chicago offence that isn't very threatening. There is significant potential for a strong outcome, and you can likely acquire him at a low ownership stake.

Honourable Mention: Mackenzie Blackwood - COL

Colorado has faced a challenging couple of weeks, but Mackenzie Blackwood shouldn't be blamed for the difficulties. Despite giving up five goals in his last four starts, he holds a 2-2 record. He allowed just one goal in a game against Detroit, but unfortunately, his offense was unable to provide any support.

San Jose features some young players who can be dangerous on the offensive end, but their defence is lacking, and Askarov has not performed well. He will likely be a popular choice among players, but if you're willing to accept the high ownership percentage, he may be worth considering for cash games.

Player of the Day: Nathan MacKinnon - COL

Nathan MacKinnon did not record a point on Monday, which disappointed many DFS players, but some of us (myself included) anticipated this outcome. John Gibson tends to perform exceptionally well on the road, and discussing Askarov's performance away from home is a different matter altogether.

What stood out in that game was MacKinnon's ice time; he played over 26 minutes without any overtime! That’s quite unusual for a forward. While I’m not sure if he will reach that ice time again tonight, he should definitely play over 22 minutes, especially with Necas out of the lineup. To meet his value, MacKinnon will need to score multiple points and earn the shot bonus, but if anyone can achieve this, it’s him.

Honourable Mention: David Pastrnak - BOS

There is no shortage of elite forwards to choose from, but David Pastrnak stands out among the wingers. This season, he has scored 22 goals, with 13 of them coming on the road. He is also shooting 5% better away from TD Garden. Aside from a subpar performance against the Flyers, he has been accumulating points and shots on goal consistently. Additionally, he has been playing over 21 minutes in each of the last four games. I like his potential for a strong performance tonight against Florida.

Value Play of the Day: Matt Duchene - DAL

Matt Duchene hasn't had an elite season, but he has accumulated 18 points so far, including seven points in his last five games. Despite his recent success, his DraftKings price is only $3,900. The Blues recently experienced a dramatic collapse, blowing a 5-1 lead against the Nashville Predators. Although Duchene's ice time has varied, contributing a point and a few shots on goal is sufficient for him to provide value.
