NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 2/2
St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators Prediction
The St. Louis Blues are currently one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league, and that trend is unlikely to change tonight. Robert Thomas is out of the lineup, and goaltender Joel Hofer has allowed 10 goals in his last three games. While Nashville may not be a playoff team, they are capable of generating shots, particularly at home. They have greater offensive depth and a better overall goaltender. We shouldn't expect a high-scoring game, but Nashville should be able to secure two points.
- Nashville Predators Money Line (-142 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Calgary Flames Prediction
It’s been a while since I focused on a player prop, but one player really stands out: MacKenzie Weegar. The veteran defenseman has tallied 21 blocked shots in his last four games, which is an impressive statistic for any defenseman. He is regularly logging over 23 minutes of ice time at home and is set to face the Maple Leafs, who rank 13th in shots taken on the road. Securing him at a premium feels like a great opportunity.
- MacKenzie Weegar O/2.5 BLKS (+126 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
Goalie of the Day: Karel Vejmelka - UTA
Karel Vejmelka has lost his last three starts, but he has the best matchup on paper of any goalie available. The Canucks are struggling overall, and their offence is particularly weak. They don’t generate many scoring chances and rarely manage to score. Vejmelka has 25 wins this season, and his performance at home is slightly better than on the road. He stands out as the top cash game option by a significant margin.
Honourable Mention: Dustin Wolf - CGY
Many people might overlook Dustin Wolf tonight, but not you, because you read the Playbook. Although the Flames’ netminder has a season average of 3.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .896 save percentage (SV%), his home stats are much better, with a GAA of 2.32 and a SV% of .916. It’s as if Wolf transforms based on the arena where he plays. The Calgary team also performs better at home, contributing to these improved metrics. While the Maple Leafs have skilled players in their lineup, they don’t pose a significant offensive threat. I anticipate strong performance from Wolf and believe he will meet expectations.
Player of the Day: Macklin Celebrini - SJ
There are many top players to consider tonight, but the standout is Macklin Celebrini. This young phenom has scored 79 points this season, with 42 of those coming on the road. He’s averaging over 21 minutes of ice time per game and faces a Chicago team that struggles with defence. Goals are likely to come in this match, and Celebrini should have the opportunity to find the scoresheet multiple times.
Honourable Mention: Kirill Kaprizov - MIN
The Montreal Canadiens have been playing excellent hockey over the past week, and Jakub Dobes is a significant reason for their success. Meanwhile, Kirill Kaprizov may have a big night ahead. He averages over 22 minutes of ice time per game and has taken 121 shots on home ice this season. Since the Canadiens are not a top-tier defensive team, Kaprizov will likely get his opportunities. If the Canadiens cannot stay out of the penalty box, Kaprizov and his teammates will capitalize on those chances. He is definitely a player to watch.
Second Honourable Mention: Nathan MacKinnon - COL
While I don't necessarily dislike Nathan MacKinnon for tonight's game, I do have concerns. It seems that Colorado has hit a bit of a wall, and I'm worried he may not reach value. Detroit is a solid overall team, but it's John Gibson that really worries me. He has a remarkable 2.01 goals-against average (GAA) and a .935 save percentage (SV%) on the road—numbers that look like they belong in a video game in today’s NHL. Unlike Josh Wagner, I don’t anticipate a high-scoring game, and MacKinnon may struggle to hit value with just five shots and one point. I'm not suggesting you completely ignore him, but if you're setting up a single lineup and want to maximize value, there are likely better options to consider.
Value Play of the Day: Egor Chinakhov - PIT
Egor Chinakhov is successfully adjusting to life with the Penguins. He’s currently playing on the second line and averaging about 15 minutes of ice time per game. As the primary shooter on this line, he has been consistently firing the puck at the net, recording nine shots in the last two games alone. Over the past five games, he has also been accumulating points. Chinakhov is an affordable option that can help you save salary for more expensive players while still contributing valuable fantasy points.
