NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/23

 

Canadiens vs. Bruins Prediction 

We are getting one of hockey's oldest rivalries before the holiday break tonight and the way each team is trending it could be a good night for scoring. Montreal has been much better defending their own end lately but the advanced data doesn't support that continuing as over the past 10 games they've allowed 2.7 goals per game when the expected numbers are 3.43! I expect an offense like Boston's that has scored 3.7 goals per game during that span to help balance the scales on those numbers. On the flip side the Bruins have given up 3.3 goals per game in the last 10 and the Habs are an offense that can certainly get going in no time. The Bruins are 21-16 to the over and the Habs are 22-14 on the season, I expect things continue in that direction with a game total that is just 5.5 goals. Take that over folks!

Pick: Canadiens & Bruins Over 5.5 Goals (-135 on FanDuel)

Predators vs. Wild Prediction 

Credit where credit is due to the Predators right now as they've been playing much better hockey lately winning 7 of their last 10 games but this one tonight is a mountain too tall for them in my opinion. Minnesota is a top 5 team in the NHL this season and they've also won 7 of the last 10 while allowing just 2.4 goals per game during that span. They are also 13-4-4 on home ice this season which gives them a massive edge against a Nashville team that's only won 5 times on the road this season. The Wild will also hold the edge in goaltending tonight whether it be Flilip Gustavsson or Jesper Wallstedt as both have been lights out over the past month. Give me the Wild to win this one in regulation on the 60-minute Money Line.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - MacKenzie Blackwood - COL

For the Avalanche every game is firmly under their control right now and they dictate the way the game flows. This is good for a goaltender as the puck isn't around you or in your zone very often but when it is you also have a stud defending the pipes like Blackwood. He will get to go against the Mammoth tonight and they are an inconsistent squad to summarize them. Over the past 10 games they've scored 2.9 goals per game which is average by NHL standards. I don't expect them to press much tonight though and Blackwood should be in line for a nice game and the win.  

Player of The Day: Kirill Kaprizov - MIN

I just can't get enough of this Wild team lately as they've become one of the most fun teams to watch this season. Today they get Nashville and it should be a great day for the offense and Kaprizov. On the season the Predators are allowing the 4th most DFS points per game to left wingers and Kap has 8 points in the last 5 games! This play is a slam dunk for me and he will be in every lineup I make tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Dylan Cozens - OTT

Its a revenge game tonight for the Senators center as he was dealt by the Sabres last season and will be in a juicy matchup here tonight. The Sabres allow the 9th most DFS points per game to centers on the season and with Shane Pinto out of the lineup Cousins has been seeing 17-18 minutes of ice time per game. He's also playing beside Drake Batherson who has been hot of late and has a role in the top powerplay unit for the Senators. In a game I like the Ottawa offense he is a big piece of it and at 4.8k its a bargain for the slate so plug him in!
