NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/19

 

Canucks vs. Islanders Prediction 

This season its well documented that the Canucks are one of the league's worst teams and as they head towards an uncertain future they'll take on the Islanders tonight. New York has been one of the more surprising teams this season as they sit in 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division today and most of it is thanks to great defense. In home games this season the Islanders allow just 2.78 goals per game so it'll give them a leg up against Vancouver. The Canucks offense has a ton of issues as well with just 2.1 goals scored per game over their last 10 contests. Mix that with their 3.21 goals expected against mark in that same time span you can see the mismatch starting to take shape. Ilya Sorokin will start in net for the Islanders tonight and his resume speaks for itself with 6 starts in the month of December he is 5-1-0 with a 2.12 GAA and .933 SV%, those are elite numbers. Give me the Islanders at home on the Money Line tonight!

Goalie of The Day - Ilya Sorokin - NYI

Check out the best bets portion for why I like this selection here tonight as I highlighted Sorokin up there. He's on a heater and the Canucks offense is just not generating many high danger chances. Its a good slate for goalies tonight but Sorokin is cream of the crop for me. 

Player of The Day: Mikko Rantanen - DAL

Its a back to back night for the Stars but when you play the Ducks this season expect fast tempo and higher scoring games! Through the last 10 games Anaheim has had an average goal total of 6.4 goals in their games and they've allowed 3.4 for of those into their own net. Enter Rantanen who is having a terrific December so far with 4 goals and 13 total points to go along with 21 shots over 9 games. The Ducks allow the 10th most DFS points to right wingers on the season and the game total is one of the highest on the slate. I need a piece of this matchup and Moose is one of the key pieces for my lineups. 

Value Play of The Day: JJ Peterka - UTA

My sneaky plays on the slate come backing the Mammoth to potentially steam roll the Devils at home tonight. New Jersey's goaltending is cracking and the team as a whole is getting rather sloppy allowing 35 total goals over the past 10 games. Peterka fits into that narrative very well being on the top line and powerplay unit and having the most shots on the team in the month of December at 28 in 10 games. At 5.7k I have had better values in price in the past but with a small slate let's not get too cute and fire him up.
