NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/18

 

Stars vs. Sharks Prediction 

Its been fun to watch each of these teams this season but I smell a big mismatch here tonight so let's get into it. The Sharks have stayed afloat this season thanks to their offense and over the last 10 games that remains the case as they've scored 3.5 goals per game while allowing 3.4. The problem with these stats is that the Stars come into town with one of the best defenses in hockey and if the Sharks can't score to help their lackluster defense it could get ugly quick. The Stars have given up just 2.3 goals per game over that same 10 game span and I expect they snuff out the Sharks young stars as they do to every other team it seems. They are also heavy favorites so Vegas agrees with me here but instead of laying the chalky Money Line let's opt for the 60-minute line and for them to win in regulation and much more tolerable odds.

Wild vs. Blue Jackets Prediction 

The Wild are the most interesting team in the NHL right now, bar none! They are fresh off their mega deal to bring in super star Quinn Hughes and they are riding a 5 game win streak into tonight's visit to Columbus. Blue Jackets on the other hand have lost 7 of their last 10 and have allowed 3.9 goals per game during that span. By comparison the Wild have given up just 1.9 goals per game so you can start to see what my angle is betting this game tonight. If trends remain the same the Wild will win this one without much trouble and improve their 8-6-1 road mark and I expect them to especially with the way their goaltenders are playing right now too!

Goalie of The Day - Igor Shesterkin - NYR

I think this is 3 straight playbooks I have done with Shesterkin as my goalie, well here we go again! The Blues offense over the past 10 games has generated just 20 total goals and they played last night so are rolling on the second leg of a back to back. Granted Igor hasn't played his best hockey of the season recently but he is going to face minimal resistance and on the road he's been sharp with a 9-4 record a 2.34 GAA over 14 starts. I try not to overthink my goalie and you shouldn't either, let's rock with the all star netminder tonight. 

Player of The Day: Kirill Kaprizov - MIN

The rationale on why you need to attack the Blue Jackets tonight is in the best bets portion of the article so I won't be redundant here. Kappy has scored 3 goals in the last 3 games and has also collected 10 shots on goal during that time so he's heating up! Blue Jackets allow the 6th most DFS points per game to left wingers this season so this one is a lock for me tonight! 

Value Play of The Day: Alex Tuch - BUF

For all the bad things you can say about the Buffalo Sabres one thing you must give them credit for is their offensive play on home ice. The squad scores 3.31 goals per game in front of the fans and Alex Tuch has scored 16 of his season total 27 points there. At 4.8k and having at least 12 DFS points in 5 of last 6 games there are few plays that will give you that kind of value in tonight's slate.
