NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/11

 

Stars vs. Wild Prediction 

This matchup is a early look at a Central Division playoff series and I can't wait to see how it shakes out. Both teams are playing extremely well coming into tonight as the Stars have won 8 of the last 10 and the Wild 7 of their last 10 games. Each team is driven from the defensive side of the ice as the Stars are allowing just 2 goals per game during this 10 game stretch and the Wild allowing just 19! This is partly thanks to the elite goaltending each team is getting as Jake Oettinger has a 2.56 GAA on the season with a pair of shutouts and Jesper Wallstedt has a 1.95 GAA and 4 shutouts which are both tops in the league. Its a bit curious to me why the game total is 6 on some sites but we take what we're given so take the under on this one tonight. 

Pick: Stars & Wild Under 6 Goals (-115 on BetMGM)

Canadiens vs. Penguins Prediction 

Its a big day for myself and Chris Morais as our teams are squaring off on the ice. Good thing I am doing the article today and not him so I can tell you all to bet the Penguins on the Money Line. Over the past 10 games the Habs have been the league's worst defensive team allowing 39 total goals while scoring just 28. The Penguins during that time span have lost some games but mostly in shootouts. Pittsburgh in spite of that has an expected goals mark of 3.62 during the stretch and Tristan Jarry is playing well in net over his last 3 starts allowing 1.95 GAA and has a .913 SV%. Good odds on the Penguins tonight too on the Money Line so book that ticket.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Akira Schmid - VGK

Schmid has been very reliable for Vegas throughout this season so far with his 10-2-4 record and 2.35 GAA and today he will go against a Flyers team that has struggled to find consistent scoring. Philadelphia ranks 10th to last in expected goals per game over the last month at 3.14 and has also been dominated in the Corsi For percentages. Schmid should come out of this game with a nice stat line and I like him as my main option in net tonight. 

Player of The Day: Brady Tkachuk - OTT

Big time matchup for the Senators tonight as the play the defense is optional squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Over the past 10 games the Blue Jackets have the highest expected goals against mark in the NHL at 3.95 and they allow north of 30 shots per game even on home ice. Tkachuk has now played 6 games since returning from IR and over that time he has collected 6 points and 27 shots on goals. Going to be a great night to pad his stats I suspect. 

Value Play of The Day: Ben Kindel, PIT

I wrote in the best bets section how bad the Montreal defense has been so getting some cheap pieces from the Penguins is on my docket tonight. Kindel has been seeing more minutes lately with Evgeni Malkin on IR and has even taken his spot on the top powerplay unit. At 4k over on DraftKings make his 14 shots over the past 3 games make him appealing but if he scores its a steal!
