NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 11/20

 

Islanders vs. Red Wings Prediction 

Forget the Islanders you used to know they are dead, at least for now. What I mean by that is they don't play defense anymore, a concept that defined the franchise for a decade. According to expected goals against they rank 2nd highest in the NHL this season at 3.71 behind just the Canucks. Their 3 goals allowed per game on the road has yet to catch up to the advanced data, but the Red Wings offense may help speed things along. Detroit is 7-3-1 on home ice this season scoring 3.55 goals per game while posting 31.1 shots per game. Just the shear offensive metrics alone put Detroit on the radar for a best bet tonight and I like them to win on the Money Line.

Blue Jackets vs. Maple Leafs Prediction 

I can't wait to watch this one tonight as the goals should flow like the gravy on Thanksgiving! Toronto has gone over the total in an amazing 16 of 20 games this season and the Blue Jackets defense should help continue that trend. Columbus ranks 3rd in expected goals against this season at 3.74 but their offense holds a 3.44 expected goals for mark. That means every game the Blue Jackets play in should total around 7.5 goals and the total for this game tonight is 6.5! Auston Matthews will be out again for the Leafs but that hasn't slowed down the offense that has 15 goals in the last 5 games. Should trends and stats hold as they show evidence of then this game should be a barn burner, take the over.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Jake Oettinger - DAL

I do like a lot of the lower priced goalie options as well tonight but for play of the day I have to go with the Otter. The Stars play great defense on the road allowing just 2.67 goals per game and 27.3 shots per game, but the goaltender himself is 4-1-1 on the road as well. Canucks offense isn't scary at a near league average of 3.1 goals expected per game so let's man our lineups with Oettinger between the pipes tonight. 

Player of The Day: Dylan Larkin - DET

When looking for a forward in DFS you want someone that does it all and to me that's Dylan Larkin. He has 12 goals, 12 assists and 69 shots over 20 games this season and is riding a point streak of 5 games. The Blue Jackets defense isn't much of a concern either and they allow the 12th most DFS points per games to centers on the season. Larkin in front of the home crowd is a lock for me tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Brad Marchand - FLA

The Panthers are so banged up right now that anyone in their lineup could be a great value as they are seeing big minutes but Marchand is a cut above. He has 13 goals on the season and hasn't had a single digit DFS game since before Halloween! He has a goal in 7 of the last 8 contests as well and the Devils offense is slipping a bit lately allowing 10 goals over the last 3 games. Give me the rat king tonight at just 6.2k over on DraftKings!
