Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook. This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS related for tonight’s 10-game slate. There are a handful of big matchups for some select offenses tonight so those will be the targets in daily fantasy of course. We have some very good matchups to cover, so let’s get into the action.

For the NHL Bets, we are going to start off very slowly. It’s a new year, and things around the league are going to be different. We don’t have stats yet to work with, so most recommendations are going to be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/21

 

Kraken vs. Capitals Prediction

When teams play the back to back it means two things, one your getting the backup goaltender and two you're getting a team that may not last a full 60 minutes, especially on the road. The Kraken will suffer from both of these issues tonight and they'll visit a Capitals team that is stingy as you can be. Through 6 games the Caps have given up just 12 goals and 25 shots on goal so its going to be an uphill battle for Seattle tonight. 

It should be Logan Thompson in net for the Capitals tonight and his 1.75 GAA and .921 SV% is among the best in hockey at this time. Combine that with the Washington defense and their scoring you can see the Capitals Puck Line is the wager to make tonight. 

Pick: Capitals Puck Line -1.5 (+100 on DraftKings)

Blue Jackets vs. Stars Prediction

It should come as no surprise after last season but again this year the Blue Jackets are one of the league's worst defensive teams. In all situations they have an expected goals against mark of 4.82 which is the highest mark in the NHL and its not even close! In game stats they are allowing 3 goals per game so something has got to give today. 

On the Stars side their offense is humming along per usual with 3.6 goals scored per game and 3.55 goals expected per game. They are right on the money with their projections and actual stats and as a handicapper I love that. They also are a great home team going back to last season so give me the Stars to win on the puck line and cover the spread.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Logan Thompson - WSH

I like the Capitals an awful lot today so of course I like the spot for Logan Thompson. He has picked up where he left off last season and has a record of 3-1-0 and a GAA of 1.75. He will play against a Kraken team on a back to back tonight and their offense scores just 3 goals per game but their expected goals total is well below that. Thompson is primed for a big night so he has to be in my lineups. 

Player of The Day: Mikko Rantanen - DAL

The Stars are in a big spot so that makes Rantanen the play of the day for me. He already has 3 goals and 7 total points through 5 games but the upside could be even greater than that tonight against a Blue Jackets team that is in the toilet analytically on defense. Columbus also allows the 5th most DFS points per game to right wingers on the season as well. He also provides some floor with his 16 shots on the season, look for Mikko to pot a goal tonight if not multiple. 

Value Play of The Day: Kyle Palmieri - NYI

Any time the Sharks come to town you will get my attention that's where the Islanders offense is today. Bo Horvat is for sure a lock in play but what about his winger on the powerplay in Palmieri? He has averaged 11.9 DFS points per game over on DK this season and the Sharks allow the most DFS points to right wingers on the season! Could be a big game for him tonight and 5.5k is a great price.
