Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook. This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS related for tonight’s 5-game slate. There are a handful of big matchups for some select offenses tonight so those will be the targets in daily fantasy of course. We have some very good matchups to cover, so let’s get into the action.

For the NHL Bets, we are going to start off very slowly. It’s a new year, and things around the league are going to be different. We don’t have stats yet to work with, so most recommendations are going to be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/20

 

Kraken vs. Flyers Prediction

The Kraken by analytics are the most boring team in the NHL right now and I think that's just fine for them as they sit at 3-0-2 to start the season. Win any way you can but their 2.84 expected goals per game is near the bottom of the league and their defense of 2.41 goals expected against is the 2nd best mark as well. They are going to make things difficult for a Flyers team that has struggled out of the gates here with just 14 goals over their opening 5 games. 

Joey Daccord figures to be between the pipes for the Kraken tonight and his 2.38 GAA speaks for itself. Daniel Vladar is the projected starter for the Flyers and he has played well too with a 1.65 GAA and .934 SV%. Expect a lower scoring game here tonight and take the under!

Jets vs. Flames Prediction

Nothing about the Flames season so far would be described as good as they sit at 1-5-0 through their first 6 games. They are dead last in offense with just 10 goals during that time span while allowing 25. This is a bad team right now and here come the Jets who are 4-1-0 and look very good again this season. 

Of course the goaltending has been steady from Connor Hellebuyck with his 2.51 GAA but the offense has carried its weight as well with 21 goals over 5 games and an expected goals mark of 3.29. I expect trends to continue tonight and I will be taking the Jets on the Money Line to win the game outright.

Goalie of The Day: Joey Daccord - SEA

Much like the rationale of betting the under in the Kraken and Flyers game is the reason to play Daccord as your DFS goalie tonight. He's 3-0-1 on the season with a 2.38 GAA, what's not to love about that? He is sporting a goals above expected mark of just 0.4 but its because the shot volume hasn't been there for him. It won't be again today as the Flyers rank last at 20.6 shots per game but I could see a shutout in this guy's future. 

Player of The Day: Mark Scheifele - WPG

I could have went with Kyle Connor here as well but either way the Jets are in the best spot of any offense on tonight's slate! Schiefele has 6 goals already this season and will play a floundering Flames team for easy pickings to pad stats. He also has 14 shots on goal this season and the Flames allow nearly 30 per game so the upside is massive here tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Alexis Lafreniere - NYR

This game is likely a toss up on the outcome but I do see an avenue for the Rangers young forward to cobble together a decent game here. The Wild at even strength haven't bee the best allowing 12 goals which is 10th most in the NHL right now and their Corsi rating sits at 47.9%. That means the Rangers could have the edge here tonight and with Laffy and his 21 shots this season I could see a good return on his price of just 4.3k over on DraftKings.
