Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook. This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS related for tonight’s 8-game slate. There are a handful of big matchups for some select offenses tonight so those will be the targets in daily fantasy of course. We have some very good matchups to cover, so let’s get into the action.

For the NHL Bets, we are going to start off very slowly. It’s a new year, and things around the league are going to be different. We don’t have stats yet to work with, so most recommendations are going to be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/13

 

Oilers vs. Rangers Prediction

 For the opening wager on the day I am honed in on the Oilers and Rangers tonight as the numbers early are popping! The Rangers are playing have been playing suspect defense despite early results as they have the 2nd highest expected goals against at 5 on 5 so far this season behind just the Blackhawks, not good company to be in. On the other end the Oilers offense has generated many chances but has yet to cash in. Their expected goals total however, is the 3rd highest in hockey at 4.45 in all situations. Numbers like this must even out eventually and I am betting that happens tonight so give me the over on the 5.5 goals here. 

Pick: Oilers & Rangers Over 5.5 Goals (-130 on DraftKings)

Hurricanes vs. Sharks Prediction

East coast teams on the west coast this early in the season is an interesting move by the schedule makers but no matter I still want to wager on this game. The Canes are the best team in the NHL in terms of expected goals right now in all situations at 4.82 and their defense is the 2nd best behind only the Oilers. The Sharks defense is once again non-existent and they've allowed 11 games between their opening pair of games. Seems like there's blood in the water here and not the kind that will benefit the Sharks. Carolina on the Puck Line for me tonight please.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Frederik Andersen - CAR

I am putting out this playbook so early in the day that Andersen has not been confirmed in net but any Hurricanes goalie will do in this spot today against the Sharks. San Jose does have 9 goals through 2 games but they are way out over their ski's analytically speaking. They are allotted about 2.9 goals expected per game and the Hurricanes are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL year after year. The safe pick and the goalie of the day will be whoever is manning the pipes for Carolina tonight. 

Player of The Day: Connor McDavid - EDM

Who else could it be on a day the Oilers play hockey? McDavid and the Oilers are out of the gate a little slow on offense but you'll see that won't continue as they're stacking up 36 shots on goal per game. The Rangers are a bit out of sorts on defense right now as well and between him and Draisaitl, Vincent Trocheck can't guard everyone! McDavid with the big game tonight, book it. 

Value Play of The Day: MacKenzie Weegar - CGY

This Vegas and Calgary game figures to be tight checking and lower scoring and that's just fine for me as Weegar remains in a great spot. He's 3 games in and hasn't had that big DFS game yet but he is primed and ready as Vegas allows the 7th most DFS points per game to blue liners so far this season. The forwards will be tied up in their scrums but Weegar will be hanging back to unload some slappers, he's my top play at defense.
