NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/11

 

 

 

Canadiens vs. Blackhawks Prediction

We are only 1-2 games into the season with most of these teams so take all stats with a grain of salt but none the less its all we have so it must be taken into consideration. 

The Blackhawks figure to have one of the worst defensive units in the league this season, as they have been in the past few campaigns. So far this year through 2 games they've given up 35 shots a game which is the 4th most in the NHL and they've allowed 3.5 goals per game. That puts the Habs' offense in a great spot today to score some goals and post some offensive production and Cole Caufield comes to mind for a prop bet. While chalky, Caufield to go over 2.5 shots is a lower number than it should be so let's go ahead and hit the over on that!

Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings Prediction

The Maple Leafs are off to a good start this season as they potted in 5 goals in their season opener and will now play a Detroit team that could be shaky on defense. They weren't a good unit last season and it look like it could be much of the same. Their goaltending situation is one to watch as well with Cam Talbot getting older after a campaign that saw his GAA at 2.93 and a SV% of .900. 

The Leafs on the other hand have much better men between the pipes and were one of the stingiest teams in hockey in the last few months of last season. Anthony Stolarz will start today for the Leafs and he's coming off a big win to start the season where he posted a .935 SV%. Give me the Maple Leafs to win this one straight up on the Money Line as value is good considering the minor mismatch between this pair of teams.

Goalie Of The Day: Logan Thompson - WSH

Forget what happened in the playoffs, Logan Thompson has always been a very good regular season goaltender! He took a loss in the opener but still played well allowing just 2 goals against the Bruins. Today he plays an Islanders team that lacks star power and creativity on offense and they rank 26th in the NHL in expected goals percentage. 

The ceiling may not be as high as some other goaltenders going today but I like the safe option in a game the Capitals that's deeper and should win while playing well in front of him

Player Of The Day: Cole Caufield - MTL

Much of the rationale for Caufield can be found in his player prop above but again the Habs are in a big spot today against Chicago. The Blackhawks have the highest mark of expected goals against right now at 5.84 in the NHL and they will be pushed again today. Caufield is on the ice a ton and should have as high a goal scoring projection as anyone on the slate.

Value Play Of The Day: Justin Brazeau - PIT

I realize its VERY early in the season but the Penguins are playing well under Dan Muse right now and the numbers back it up with their expected goals total being in the top 10 right now at nearly 5 a game! Brazeau has been a big part of that with 3 goals through just 2 games while putting up 7 shots as well. I can think of much worse options at 4.1k to put into your lineups this evening.
