Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook. This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS related. Tonight's small four-game slate doesn’t mean we don’t have options. Some teams are on a back-to-back, while others are just not good. Let’s dive right into the action and see which players stand out the most.

For the NHL Bets, we will start very slowly. It’s a new year, and things around the league are going to be different. We don’t have a ton of concrete stats to work with yet, so most recommendations will be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. We got a whole year together, so let’s get to work. You can get every expect pick, including mine, right here.

Washington Capitals vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction

The total for this game opened at 6.5 and should hold steady until puck drop. I tried to figure out why it opened so high, and I couldn’t find a legit reason. Maybe Vegas knows something I don't? (probably).

Washington is allowing just 1.86 goals per game and limiting opponents to 24 shots per game. Columbus was an excellent team at home last season, but that success hasn’t carried over to the start of this season. Jey Greaves is confirmed to start for the Blue Jackets, and his 2.04 GAA and .928 SV% are elite. There is a ton of skill on both sides, but I think we see a low-scoring affair.

  • Under 6.5 (-118 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Eric Comrie - WPG

I don’t love playing a goalie on a back-to-back, but we will make an exception tonight. The Jets looked terrible against Seattle yesterday, so I expect them to come out with more conviction in their game. Comrie was solid in his lone start this season, so even with an $8200 price tag on DraftKings, we might need to bite the bullet in cash games.

Honourable mention:  Alex Lyon - BUF

Why not live life dangerously on a Friday night! Alex Lyon has started all but one game this year for Buffalo, and he’s been doing his part. The Sabres are less terrible than they were last week, so maybe they can beat the Leafs in their own barn? He’s sporting a .924 SV% and is facing a Leafs offence that isn’t elite like in previous seasons. He’s a good GPP option.

Player of The Day: Jack Hughes - NJ

New Jersey gets to face a San Jose team that gave up five goals to the Rangers less than 24 hours ago? Sign me up! Yes, they got their first win of the season, but it’s the Rangers-- a team that can’t defend-- and it took five points from Macklin Celebrini. Jack Hughes could break the slate tonight if the Sharks don’t contain him (spoiler: they won’t).

Value Play of The Day: Zach Benson - BUF

I love me a piece of Zach Benson tonight. The kid has six assists in four games and is averaging over 21 minutes in the last two. It’s a small sample size, but this is encouraging. Morgan Rielly will not play tonight, so the bad Leafs blue line is getting even worse. He’s $5300 on DK, which is too low considering his production.
