NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today 10/12

Ottawa Senators vs. New Jersey Devils: Monday, October 12th

With small sample sizes each game can seem erratic but one thing if for sure the Devils just are finishing at a rate they should. New Jersey has the 7th best xGoals% in the NHL at 57.5% when skating at even strength but yet they are being outscored 5 to 8 thus far on the season. I would deem that to be unlucky but in the math world its termed an outlier. With outliers in sports things usually regress back to the mean whether it be positive or negative. 

This line of thinking also applies to the Senators who have seen a blazing start to their season but the numbers underneath it all deem it unsustainable. Ottawa has given up just six goals at even strength through five games but their Corsi and expected goal shares sit under 50%. 

Of course goaltending can be the great equalizer and it has for Ottawa as Linus Ullmark has been the second best goalie in the NHL in terms of goals saved above expected per 60 minutes at +1.341. That said Jake Allen has been plenty serviceable as well for the Devils just not of that level. 

I think things come back to the middle tonight and in the lowest total on the slate there is plenty of room for the Devils to sneak a goal in to win things today so Devils Money Line for me.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Jake Allen, NJD

The Devils are favorites at home so that's a pillar of starting goaltending for DFS right there! I also like the spot as the Senators aren't generating that many goals at even strength so if New Jersey can stay out of the box I feel Allen could have a really solid day. 

Player of The Day: Kirill Kaprizov, MIN

Vegas is a stingy team overall but against left wingers they are actually allowing the 9th most DFS points in the NHL to the position. In a small slate there are going to be a lot of erratic plays but make sure you plug in a consistent stud who has 6 goals already on the season. 

Value Play of The Day: Drake Batherson, OTT

Long story short I play in a goals only scoring format of fantasy hockey with my friends and every season I draft Batherson at a discount. He is so undervalued in DFS, fantasy, betting you name it. The man is a 30-goal scorer, let's give him some respect. 

Defenseman Play of the Day: Thomas Chabot, OTT

This is a play only if Jake Sanderson is out tonight but if he is fire up the Senators blue liner. The Devils are allowing the 2nd most DFS points this season to the defenseman and Chabot figures to be all over the ice tonight. 

Top Stack of the Day: Golden Knights Line 1

Both of these games could be lower scoring but I wanted to highlight this line here. Among forward lines that have played over 50 minutes together this season this group of Jack Eichel, Ivan Barbashev and Mark Stone ranks second in the NHL is xGoal share and its a wide gap to third place.
