Welcome to the second week of hockey action on the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook this Saturday! I am excited to bring this article to you again this season, and I can't wait to build another winning season in betting and daily fantasy.

If you are new here, then let me say welcome to Fantasy Alarm and thank you for checking out our top-tier NHL coverage! I will also tell you that early-season betting in this sport is all about slow rolling and data collection. Unlike most sports, hockey teams turn over a great deal in the offseason, from coaches to goalies and different forward lines. No two seasons are the same, so when you place your bets in these opening weeks, keep BANKROLL MANAGEMENT in mind. You will see many bets to start this NHL season are a quarter unit or half unit; that is by design!

This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS-related for tonight's 10-game slate! We are in the first full month of the NHL season, so let's get out there and make it count. There are many games to choose from and many ways to make a winning lineup! We have some very good matchups to cover, so let’s get into the action.

For the NHL Bets, there are plenty of angles to attack on the slate, and some spots might surprise you! Check out the wagers, and if you like the rationale, then tail them. You can find all wagers here on the NHL Bet Tracker.

NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today 10/10

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins: Saturday, October 10th (1pm ET Puck Drop)

Every season there is a team with higher expectations, but they start ice cold. That is the story of the Flyers thus far, as they are winless through five games. Not only are they winless, but they are also analytically in the gutter, allowing 14.24 expected goals against at even strength while scoring just four total goals. The Bruins, on the other hand, have also played five games and have allowed just seven goals at even strength and have become a formidable home team dating back to last season.

Jeremy Swayman will start in net today for the Bruins, and he also benefits from the home ice just as much as anyone in the NHL. This season he has made three starts and given up just five goals, and overall he has a 1.98 GAA and .932 SV%. That is a more roundabout way of saying he is going to be a problem for a Flyers team that already can't score goals.

Given the stats and overall trends, I was expecting the Bruins to be huge favorites to win, but at just -135, that is a hell of a price! Bruins to win is the opening wager of the day for me; hopefully they get us started right.

  • Pick: Bruins ML (-135 on Caesars) Half-Unit Play

Edmonton Oilers vs. San Jose Sharks: Saturday, October 10th (4pm ET Puck Drop)

Every season is supposed to be a clean slate, but for the Oilers, through four games it's been much of the same. Score as many goals as possible to compensate for the lack of defense and goaltending. That paradigm still rings true as three of their four games this season have hit the over, and in total they've scored 22 goals in those games. Expect maximum pace from the road team today in the Shark Tank.

On the home side, the Sharks have started slower than expected, but they've played some games without newly appointed captain Macklin Celebrini. He is a game-time decision today but if he plays matters not when it comes to betting the game total for me. The Sharks have given up 10 even-strength goals in four games, and their penalty kill unit will be overmatched against this Oilers team on the power play.

The total is 6.5, which is to be expected, but I do not worry about that; this could be a game with double-digit goals by the time the final horn blows.

  • Pick: Oilers & Sharks Over 6.5 (-120 on DraftKings) Half-Unit Play

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day:

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB

Anytime you play this Islanders offense that struggles to score, there's a good chance you wind up as goalie of the day. The Lightning superstar finds himself right in that spot today as he's held down a 2.05 GAA through 3 games and the defense in front of him as given up just six even-strength goals all season. Rock-solid play here for the slate.

Player of The Day:

Nathan MacKinnon, COL

In a matchup against the Maple Leafs and their aversion to defense, this man could go nuclear. He is the most expensive player on the slate, but that's for good reason, seeing as he has eight points in four games played already and the Maple Leafs have allowed 12 even-strength goals in just four games. Lock it up here and don't be too cute.

Value Play of The Day:

Beckett Sennecke, ANA

The young Ducks forward is having himself a very nice start to the season thus far with three goals and three assists in just four games. Tonight he gets to take on the Flames, a team that has given up more even-strength goals than any team in the NHL at 20! They also are allowing the 5th most DFS points per game to right wingers on the season, so that helps too.

Defenseman Play of the Day

Miro Heiskanen, DAL

This is a play against the Penguins as much as anything, who are old and they are playing a back-to-back tonight. But Heiskanen also stands on his own merit as the straw that stirs the drink in Dallas. He has two goals on the season thus far and nine shots on goal; I think he breaks out today though - wait and watch!

Top Stack of the Day

Ducks Line 1

The Flames are hot garbage right now, and the Ducks' young weapons are primed and ready to feast tonight. The line of Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier, and A.J. Greer is primed and ready to strike tonight as they're long overdue for a slump-buster type of matchup.
