NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/6

 

Blue Jackets vs. Sharks Prediction 

If you haven't been paying attention to the first half of the season the young Sharks stars are breaking out in a big way and lately the games have been explosive! Over the past 10 games San Jose has scored 3.9 goals per game which is the 3rd highest mark in the NHL over that time span. Combine that with the fact they allowed 4.3 goals per game you can see where I am going with my wager in this game. The Blue Jackets further the cause as their offense has posted 3.3 goals over 10 games and they are getting goals from up and down the lineup. The Columbus defense has been better of late but in the Shark Tank its a fast paced game of madness and they're not deep enough to slow things down. Give me the over in this game tonight as we watch hockey into the wee hours of the night.

Predators vs. Oilers Prediction 

Let me give some credit to the Predators who has put themselves back in the playoff race over the past month and are coming off a big win last night over the Kraken. Alright, moving on now as I don't like the spot for them tonight on the road on a back to back game situation. Its not their fault but the Oilers are a team that holds an expected goal total of 3.79 over the past 10 games and they've been darn good at home this season at 10-5-3 scoring an actual 3.78 goals per game. I just see this as a contest where the Preds are outgunned and the Oilers are rested going back to Saturday. Give me Edmonton to win this one in regulation on the Money Line and chalk up another nice home performance.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Ilya Sorokin - NYI

This will be Sorokin's first game back since a lower body injury took him out on December 19th but with a veteran like him I don't much worry about Rust. In his 17 starts before the absence he was 10-7 straight up with a 2.14 GAA and .927 SV% and will get to go against a Devils team that has managed just 1.7 goals per game over their last 10 contests. Sorokin won't be on the defensive much in this game so the floor is great and against a weak offense he could very well be on shutout watch!

Player of The Day: Macklin Celebrini - SJ

As I wrote in the best bets I think this San Jose vs. Columbus game will be the highest scoring on the slate and how can you think that and not play Celebrini? The kid is on an absolute tear with a point streak going back to early December and 4 goals over the past 5 games. Blue Jackets allow the 9th most DFS points to centers this season and few are better than the kid so let's lock him in as the play of day. 

Value Play of The Day: Josh Doan - BUF

Its a smash spot against the Canucks tonight as the Sabres are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now and they're in front of the home crowd. Josh Doan will benefit from riding the Tage Thompson train tonight as his linemate and I need to be a part of that. Doan has 3 points over the past 5 games but the upside is big being part of the first powerplay unit as well. At 4.8k he will be a staple in my plays tonight.
