NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/27

 

Stars vs. Blues Prediction 

At this point in the season there are already teams that are out of the playoff running and the Blues are in exactly that spot. They come into tonight losers of 4 in a row and a -52 goals differential to host the Stars who are the 3rd best team by record in the Western Conference. On paper and digging deeper I can tell you this game shouldn't be close as the Blues have averaged just 2.1 goals per game over their last 10 games while allowing 3.2 goals. That's losing hockey by a large margin and that's where the Stars with their 15 road wins come into play. They haven't played in a few days so they are nice and charged up and Jake Oettinger will be in the cage with his 9-5-1 road record this season. Stars win this one being the better team in better form tonight and let's just stick to the Money Line and keep things simple. 

Pick: Stars Money Line (-150 on BetRivers)

Kings vs. Red Wings Prediction 

Time to get a total on the board here tonight as the Kings and Red Wings play a cross conference matchup. For the home team Detroit squad things are going very well tied for the most points in the East and winners of 8 of 10 games. The reason they are here is a commitment to defense of late as during that span they've given up just 2.1 goals per game which in the 2nd fewest in the time span. On the Kings side they aren't quite as good but they still allow just 2.97 expected goals per game in all situations and not for nothing but Darcy Kuemper is slated to start for them in net with his 2.56 GAA on the season. Opposite him will be John Gibson who is red hot currently and leading all goalies in wins and SV% at .931 since the start of December. I imagine goals will be hard to come by here tonight so I will be taking the under thank you!

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Filip Gustavsson - MIN

Been a nice run picking goalies lately for your boy here so let's stay hot! Gustavsson is in perhaps one of the safer spots on the slate going against a Blackhawks offense on the road but I don't mind taking it easy sometimes! Chicago has scored just 2.2 goals per game over their last 10 games and their Corsi % has fallen to 44.96% in that time period. Blackhawks will be lucky to have the puck in this game and Gustavsson should post good numbers playing behind the more dominant team in Minnesota. 

Player of The Day: Macklin Celebrini - SJ

I can't say for sure but I am pretty sure this is the first time Celebrini will be the cover boy for my DFS playbook. I have no doubt it will be the first of many but tonight is a SMASH spot for the kid and the Sharks offense as a whole with the Canucks allowing 4.3 goals per game over their last 10 as well as 31.5 shots on goal. That gives Celebrini a ton of runway from shots to assists and goals of course which is what we want. Canucks also allow the 2nd most DFS points per game to centers on the season so lock in some Sharks love and especially their star player. 

Value Play of The Day: Elias Lindholm - BOS

Bruins let me down in overtime last night but the offense was still plenty of offense and their should a lot again tonight. Nashville has given up 3.8 goals per game and the shot volume against is also higher than average. Enter Lindholm who centers the Boston top line next to star David Pastrnak of course and sees big minutes as well. He remains so cheap that I play him in the majority of slates as a center at 4.7k that has multi point upside is way too hard to pass up in my lineups.
