NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/24

 

Canadiens vs. Bruins Prediction 

Another chapter in this historic rivalry is set to drop puck tonight as the Canadiens visit the Bruins. Both teams have exceeded expectations this season in a big way and are sitting in playoff position or very near it as they get set to face off. The driving force lately for each team has been offense and a lot of it. Over the past 10 games both the Habs and Bruins rank in the top 7 of the league in goals per game with the former having netted 3.7 and the latter at a whopping 4 per game! I think trends continue tonight in that regard as Sam Monthembeault is in net for Montreal with his 3.42 GAA and .871 SV% goes against Boston's Jeremy Swayman who has had a difficult January with a 3.11 GAA over 6 games. Give me the over on this game and let the puck find the twine plenty of times tonight. 

Pick: Canadiens & Bruins Over 6.5 Goals (-105 on FanDuel)

Hurricanes & Senators Prediction 

Its a matchup of a pair of teams heading in opposite directions in the standings tonight as the Hurricanes visit Canada's capital to take on the Senators. What was once a promising start to the season has gone south in a hurry for Ottawa as they've lost 7 of their last 10 while allowing 4 goals per game during that stretch. They've also fallen to under .500 at home which is where the Hurricanes come in. The Canes have been a serviceable road team all season at 13-10 straight up but will get the boost of Brandon Bussi in the cage as well. Over his last 5 starts he is 4-1 while allowing just 10 total goals and will play behind a Carolina team that's scored 3.8 goals per game over their last 10 outings. Canes should be a bigger favorite here in my opinion but nonetheless its Carolina on the Money Line for me tonight.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Brandon Bussi - CAR

I spoke about Bussi a bit when picking the Hurricanes in best bets but the kid can play! He will go against a Senators team that is only generating 1.86 goals per game at even strength behind a Carolina defense that has been known to be exceptional for seasons on end. Bussi will face some shot volume as the Senators are a bit more spicy at home but I think he gets the win and continues to build on the productive month he's having. 

Player of The Day: Nikita Kucherov - TB

Back to pick on the Blue Jackets here after they thwarted my efforts on Thursday. Some could say this is a revenge play and that's kind of true but its also a great matchup for the Tampa Bay offense. Kucherov and the offense have averaged 4 goals per game during their 9-0-1 run and Columbus allows the 8th DFS points per game to right wingers on the season. The play won't come cheap but in a slate this size you can't afford to miss on your top pieces and I will have him everywhere. 

Value Play of The Day: Ivan Demidov - MTL

I could make the argument that the entirety of the Montreal offense is a value with as many goals they score and the prices all being under 7k on a daily basis. I will highlight Demidov today though as he has 4 points in the last 5 games and this matchup with Boston should be a high scoring affair according to projections. The exposure you get at 4.6k is also fantastic with him being on the top powerplay unit so let's load up Demidov and greatly excite one Christopher Morias.
