NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/23
New York Rangers vs San Jose Sharks Prediction
The New York Rangers have been disappointing this season, struggling to generate shots and ranking among the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL. However, their performance on the road has been somewhat better, averaging nearly three goals per game. On the other hand, San Jose is allowing 3.51 goals per game, but can also score. This game is expected to feature many scoring opportunities for both teams. With the poor goaltending on display, we should see the Over hit before the start of the third period.
- Rangers vs Sharks OVER 6.5 (-135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
New Jersey Devils vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction
This matchup features two of the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL. The Devils have the potential to score goals, but for some reason, they just can’t seem to get it together. The Canucks are struggling as well, which explains why finding the back of the net feels like a daunting task. The total is set at 5.5, which seems reasonable. However, considering the poor goaltending from both sides, we might actually see a higher-scoring game than expected. While we're not anticipating a wild 7-6 finish, we believe there's a good chance the total will exceed 5.5.
- Devils vs Canucks OVER 5.5 (-135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
Goalie of the Day: Mackenzie Blackwood - COL
The Colorado Avalanche are experiencing some adversity for the first time this season. They hold a record of 1-1-2 in their last four games, with their first regulation loss at home. MacKenzie Blackwood has been confirmed as the starter, and he is aiming to bounce back from a poor performance against Nashville. Colorado will be facing the Philadelphia Flyers, a team known for struggling to score and generating few offensive chances. Samuel Ersson will be in goal for the Flyers, and his overall statistics are difficult to overlook. Blackwood has a strong opportunity to secure a win, which would help him reach his value.
Honourable Mention: Philipp Grubauer - SEA
The Anaheim Ducks have achieved a few wins, but their performance has been very inconsistent. While they have the capacity to score goals, they can also go cold unexpectedly. Their goaltending has also been unpredictable, so even a below-average offence like the Kraken might find some success. Philipp Grubauer has an impressive record of 5-2-1 at home, with a 1.96 goals-against average (GAA) and a .934 save percentage (SV%). These numbers are exceptional for a goaltender in 2026. Given this context, we probably won't see a high-scoring game, which increases Grubauer’s chances of delivering value.
Player of the Day: Macklin Celebrini - SJ
Macklin Celebrini has been exceptional this season, and I expect that momentum to carry on tonight. The Rangers have difficulty preventing goals, and Spencer Martin is likely to feel the pressure. He’s not an elite goalie, so if Celebrini and his teammates get some early shots on him, they should find success. I anticipate that Celebrini will finish the game with multiple points.
Honourable Mention: Nathan MacKinnon - COL
We've talked about the Avalanche facing some challenges in their recent games, but that doesn’t mean we should overlook Nathan MacKinnon. His performance, like that of his teammates, is exceptional when playing at home. He averages over 22 fantasy points on DraftKings at Ball Arena. While his price is on the higher side, he has the potential to outshine Samuel Ersson and dominate the slate.
Value Play of the Day: Victor Olofsson - COL
In an effort to shake things up, Victor Olofsson has been promoted to the top line and has a favourable matchup on paper. He played a season-high 21 minutes against Anaheim, finishing with three shots and two blocked shots. With Ross Colton unavailable, Olofsson has more opportunities to demonstrate that he can be a top-six forward. While we don't expect extraordinary performance from him, at a price of $3,600, scoring a point along with a few shots on goal is certainly within reach.
