NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/22

 

Stars vs. Blue Jackets Prediction 

There is no doubt the new year has been a bit bumpy for the Stars but after their last game a 6-2 win over the Bruins I have a feeling their play is rounding into form again. They'll get an opportunity to stack another win tonight against a Blue Jackets team that has already fired their coach for the year. Columbus can score but they struggle on defense allowing 3.8 goals expected against over their last 10 games and the Stars loaded offense should be able to exploit that. The books have it projected to be a tighter game than I see it and that's alright as the odds are better for a Stars team that is 15-6-6 on the road this season. Stars on the Money Line will open my betting card for this evening!

Sabres & Canadiens Prediction 

I have been getting burned on unders the past week so let's try an over on for size! This matchup features a pair of the highest scoring offenses in hockey this month as the visiting Sabres have scored 3.9 goals per game over their last 10 and the Canadiens have potted 3.5! Both of those figures are firmly in the top 10 in the NHL and I don't see either team slowing down with their middle of the pack defensive units. It also helps our cause that the Habs have gone over in 31 of 50 games this season, the 2nd highest hit rate on overs in the NHL behind just the Ducks. 6.5 goals is always a high number to attain but I believe this one could be the highest scoring of the slate so give me the over in this matchup tonight.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Connor Hellebuyck - WPG

Its been an extremely inconsistent year for the former Vezina Trophy winner this season and this month has been no different with strokes of genius mixed in with stinkers. I think today for Hellebuyck will be the former though has he's given up 7 goals over his last 3 starts and will face a Panthers team that is really struggling to score. Florida is 4th to last in goals per game over the last 10 games at 2.2 so the stage is set for the Jets goalie to have a nice night for us. 

Player of The Day: Jason Robertson - DAL

The full fade of the Blue Jackets is on today and Jason Robertson stands to benefit the most from this matchup. They allow a ton of shots and Robertson has 17 goals and 34 points over 27 road games this season to go along with a whopping 103 shots on goal. Fellow winger Mikko Rantanen is still day to day so that means bigger minutes and an even bigger role than usual in a smash spot, lock him into the lineups tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Cole Caufield - MTL

Don't tell any of the DFS sites but Caufield is becoming a bargain at 6.1k over on DraftKings these days. For a guy that has scored 25 goals this season and has 4 of those in his last 3 games I don't understand the value of the price. Either way this matchup with the Sabres should produce a lot of scoring so I need a piece of it and Caufield will be at the top of my list.
