NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/20

 

Sharks vs. Lightning Prediction 

The next stop on the Florida road tour stops in Tampa Bay for the Sharks tonight and after playing last night I don't like their fortunes heading into this one. They did beat the Panthers so credit there but they got outplayed for large stretches and their opponent tonight is a much better team. No team in hockey has scored more goals over the past 10 games than the Lightning who average 4.3 goals per game while allowing just 2.2 during that stretch. The Sharks on the flip side have given up 3.7 goals per game over their last 10 and will struggle to score on offense as well. The goalie matchup will feature backup Yaroslav Askarov as well with his 3.52 GAA against Andrei Vasilevskiy who has 20 wins on the season and a 2.22 GAA. I expect unrivaled domination from the Lightning tonight so take them on the Puck Line.

Senators vs. Blue Jackets Prediction 

Its a matchup in the eastern conference tonight between a pair of teams that think defense is optional as the Senators travel to Ohio's capital to take on the Blue Jackets. The Senators have let things slip of late allowing 3.9 goals per game over their past 10 contests but their offense is trying to keep up with 3.4 goals per game and a Corsi rating in the 54th percentile. That alone is a good recipe for a higher scoring game but the Blue Jackets further the narrative as their expected goals against over the last 10 games is 3.88 goals per game and they run their game at a fast pace on offense as well. Books are hedging the over in a big way tonight and I can see why but we will take the bet regardless at over 6.5 goals and take it to the bank.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Darcy Kuemper - LAK

Fading the Rangers is becoming a fruitful endeavor this season so why not apply it to our DFS lineups and our goalie of the day? The Kings have been losing but the Rangers are just as bad right now and at least the Kings are allowing just 2.93 expected goals against over their last 10 games. Kuemper is also a great goaltender at home with a 2.34 GAA over 17 games played and a .917 SV% to boot. Rangers will shoot the puck as well so the floor is matched with good upside here. 

Player of The Day: Nikita Kucherov - TB

I realize that McDavid is on the slate tonight with a good matchup but the path of least resistance runs through this Lightning game tonight against the Sharks. Their defense doesn't exist on a consistent basis and Kucherov has 19 points and 19 shots on goal through 8 games this new year. He will be expensive of course but I imagine the Lightning scoring 5+ tonight and I can't afford to miss out on that production. 

Value Play of The Day: Gabriel Vilardi - WPG

The Jets have fallen off a lot of our radars and that's fair they've been a massive let down this season but they do have a solid matchup tonight and the pieces of this offense are getting cheap. Blues allow the 3rd most DFS points to right wingers on the season and Viladardi is a capable forward with 19 goals and 44 points on the season. He has 5 points in the last 5 games and at 4.9k on DraftKings he's nice and affordable so plug him in.
