NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/17

 

Oilers vs. Canucks Prediction 

Its a another smash spot for the Oilers here tonight as they visit the Canucks who have lost 9 straight games. The plan is to tank for Vancouver of course and that plays into our hands tonight as the Oilers due a breakout offensive game. Over the past 10 games Edmonton has posted just 2.9 goals per game but they are well short of their expected goals per game with resides north of 4 goals. What better time to get right than against one of the league's worst defenses and a Canucks team that has given up 4.1 goals per game during their losing streak. If there was ever a time for Edmonton to post 5+ goals it would be tonight and with their money line so chalky I am just going to take them to win in regulation this evening. 

Pick: Oilers 60-Min Money Line (-115 on BetMGM)

Kraken vs. Mammoth Prediction 

This matchup isn't on the main slate and starts at 5pm ET for you folks but that's okay it doesn't garner much DFS attention anyway. Each of these teams has been quite good on the defensive side over the past couple of weeks as the Mammoth have given up just 2.1 goals per game over their last 10 outings and the Kraken aren't far behind allowing 2.6 goals per game. The offenses are decent but they are average at best and when you compare the play styles this one could be rather slow in pace throughout. Give me the under to start the bets off on the right foot!

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Anton Forsberg - LAK

Against the grain, here we go again! These two teams, Ducks and Kings just played last night and are back in action again tonight. That one was lower scoring and tight checking and I expect today goes the same way as the Ducks offense has cooled off in a major way. Forsberg figures to start tonight as he didn't play yesterday and I like the spot for him with the Ducks a bit wore out. Over his last 4 starts he has given up just 11 goals and has seen the SV% improve as well. I will not have Forsberg in every lineup I make tonight but he's a good contrarian play and cheaper than most.  

Player of The Day: Connor McDavid - EDM

There's just no avoiding or fading of Connor McDavid tonight, believe me I tried to rationalize it but its a suicide mission for DFS purposes. He has 12 points through 7 games this month and to go along with that 36 total shots. The Canucks are going to feel the wrath of McDavid and this offense as they are giving up 4.1 goals per game during their losing streak. They also are allowing the 5th most DFS points per game to centers, this one is a lock and throw away the key. 

Value Play of The Day: Ryan Leonard - WSH

Capitals have been a bit disappointing for the past month or so but they are in a great spot tonight. Panthers are on the heels of allowing 9 goals to the Hurricanes last night and they're back on the road today against a rested Capitals team. Leonard has filled in nicely for Tom Wilson in this offense as he leads the Caps in scoring this month with 8 points in 8 games played. Wilson is a game time decision tonight so if he goes maybe fade Leonard a little but if not Leonard will be on the top line again and his price of 5.4k is a steal.
