NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/13

 

Islanders vs. Jets Prediction 

This one won't be flashy for DFS purposes but it bares attention in the betting markets! The Islanders have been one of the best defensive teams going back to the holiday season as over the past 10 games they've allowed just 2.3 goals per game! That number is the 3rd fewest in the NHL during that time span and goaltender Ilya Sorokin will be manning the cage which only furthers their stingy defense. On the Jets side they've had a tough season but they have played better on defense of late allowing 3.1 expected goals against per game and Connor Hellebuyck will start in net who has a 2.77 GAA in home games this season. Expect a tighter checking game where goals are at a premium here tonight so the under of 5.5 goals is the play for me.

Lightning vs. Penguins Prediction 

If you haven't figured it out by now the Penguins are a very volatile team and when they're hot they are hot but when they're not nothing goes right. They find themselves at the latter right now and with Erik Karlsson heading to IR it could be a tough outing for Pittsburgh. Lightning are amongst the best in the NHL on the road this season with a mark of 16-4-3 and have won 10 straight games heading into tonight's matchup. During this streak they have outscored opponents 50-25 in goals and it could be another lopsided game coming up, give me the Lightning as road favorites tonight.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Karel Vejmelka - UTA

Going against the grain on goaltending has been going super well lately as maybe it offsets the voodoo we fear on a nightly basis so let's go for it again. The Maple Leafs offense is a scary one here but Vejmelka has had an awesome January so far with a 2.19 GAA and .920 SV% to go along with a 4-1 record! The Mammoth play great defense in front of him as well as in the last 10 games they've given up just 2.4 goals per game! Toronto is also on the 2nd leg of back to back games so may be more weary so let's go Mammoth tonight as our goalie play. 

Player of The Day: Jason Robertson - DAL

The Stars are playing again tonight and while that might make me fade a team normally the matchup with the Ducks is too good to pass up. Anaheim over the last 10 games has given up 50 total goals, most in the NHL during that time span and the Stars offensive power is something to behold. That's where Robertson comes into play with his 9 points over the last 6 games which includes 4 goals and 12 shots on goal. Everybody could eat for Dallas tonight but Robertson has been the goal scorer of late so plug him in without hesitation. 

Value Play of The Day: Drake Batherson - OTT

Outside of the Stars the Senators are in the best spot for goals tonight as the Canucks defense is allowing 4.6 goals per game over the past 10 games. Tkachuk is the obvious play but Batherson is much cheaper and is highly productive on select nights with 17 goals and 40 points on the season. Canucks allow the most DFS points to right wingers this season so at 5.6k Batherson is going to be all over my lineups this evening.
