NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/1

 

Stars vs. Blackhawks Prediction 

Its a new year but things remain the same when it comes to fading the Chicago Blackhawks. They've been in free fall recently with 8 losses in 10 games and over that time the team has scored just 2.1 goals to the 3.5 goals per game they are allowing. They're playing so poorly even their expected goals total during that time is sub 2.5 which is tough to do regardless of the situation. Enter the Dallas Stars who are once again in the contenders mix and rounding into good form after a slow November. In the past 10 games their offense is running an expected goals per game mark of 3.9 and they've won 13 of 18 road games this season. I don't know if I like them to cover the spread as that's tough on the road in the NHL but for them to just win in regulation? That's a bet I love for tonight so let's ride Stars 60-minute Money Line together!

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day - Jake Oettinger - DAL

In a smaller slate like today you really need to nail the goalie position so I am not trying to do anything too cheeky. Oettinger and the Stars have the best odds to win of any game on the main slate and the like I mentioned in the best bets the Blackhawks are just treading water to the end of the season at this point already. Oettinger has 15 wins, 2 shutouts and a .908 SV% on the season and will have a soft matchup here against a Blackhawks offense that can't seem to score consistently. He will likely be the most popular choice in our lobbies tonight but I don't mind the chalk here. 

Player of The Day: Alex DeBrincat - DET

Here's where we get a little different from the pack with some Red Wings action! The Penguins defense is in shambles, has been for about a month and over the last 10 games they are allowing 4.2 goals per game! Enter Debrincat who has 18 points in 16 career games against the Pens and has 20 goals overall on the season. Penguins also allow the 6th most DFS points to left wingers this season as they focus on stopping centers first and foremost. This play is a great one overall but also to be a bit different in our lineups. 

Value Play of The Day: Matthew Knies - TOR

Knies continues to get good ice time as William Nylander remains day to day and has long as the case he will find someway into my articles. The kid is riding a 4 goal streak over the past 3 games and tonight will get Winnipeg's backup goalie Eric Comrie. Jets overall are floundering hard right now and the Maple Leafs at home should take full advantage. At 5.4k Knies is the value of the day in a slate that has so much blah all over it.
