NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 11/03

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been one of the most surprising teams this season. They have come out of the gate flying and are getting excellent goaltending from Tristan Jarry. The Maple Leafs are 5-2-1 on home ice, but they sit 7th in the Atlantic Division. They continue to score goals at a high level, but they can’t defend. Goaltending has been lacklustre, and their blue line is nothing great. The Penguins are actually pretty good on the road-- sporting a 5-2-1 record, so why are they heavy underdogs tonight? We’ll take full advantage of Pittsburgh’s hot start and take them to cover the Money Line.

Edmonton Oilers vs St. Louis Blues Prediction

The Oilers have struggled to play well on the road, so maybe that’s why they are only -130 favorites to win tonight. Even with that, it’s hard to envision a scenario where the Blues come away from this game victorious. They are allowing over FOUR goals per game, and their penalty kill is 27th. The Oilers, to no one’s surprise, have the best power play in the NHL. If Edmonton can draw some penalties and Calvin Pickard can just be decent, this game could be over before the second period even ends. I know I said to go easy until we have more data, but I’m laying a solid two units on this play.

Goalie of The Day: Juuse Saros - NSH

Let me start by saying this: every goalie tonight is a bad option. I don’t like any of the options we have. None of them feels like a safe play, but we have to choose one, so here we are. I’ve decided to take Juuse Saros because he has the most upside relative to his price. Do I like that he’s “the guy” tonight? No. I want to vomit. That being said, the Canucks just don’t have an outstanding offence. We need to hope this game is a low-scoring affair and that Saros comes away with the win.

Player of The Day: Leon Draisaitl - EDM

Leon Draisaitl has 9 goals in 13 games and continues to be an elite option. As mentioned earlier, the Blues can’t keep the puck out of their own net, so the Oilers and their superstars could explode tonight. Since Connor McDavid has decided he doesn’t want to score goals anymore, we will take Leon, plug him into our lineup, and move on.

Value Play of The Day: Kiefer Sherwood - VAN

Did anyone have Kieder Sherwood leading the Vancouver Canucks in goals at the beginning of November? I certainly didn’t, but the leader in hits last season has decided he wants to be a goalscorer. Now, we all know he isn’t going to keep this pace up. The man is shooting 41% on the road, that’s five goals on 12 shots. He also doesn’t have an assist this season. This is the definition of a boom-or-bust play, but his $4400 price tag in DraftKings is good, and the Predators are not getting a shutout. One goal from Sherwood is enough for him to hit value.
